Zhao Tao leads Jia Zhang-Ke’s new movie


Director Jia Zhang-Ke Returns with a spreading portrait of romantic fate released from 22 years of images with ”Caught by the tide“His latest collaboration with his wife and muse Zhao tao.

Here she plays Quiaoqiao, which runs through decades of Chinese history while witnessing its deep and turbulent political change. Sideshow and Janus Films open “Caught by Tide” in selected theaters on May 9, and IndieWire shares the exclusive trailer’s premiere below.

Here is a synopsis with the state of New York Film Festival: “The prominent playwright of China’s rapid growth and social transformation from the 21st century, Jia Zhang-Ke Has taken its boldest attitude to the story yet with its fantastic “captured by the tide”. Mounted from pictures shot for 23 years-a devastating mix of fiction and documentary, with a cascade of pictures taken from previous films, unused scenes and recently shot dramatic sequences-“trapped by the tide” is a free-flowing work of unspoken longing, is carried along more by music than dialogs.

NyFF-synopsis also notes that “the film is mostly followed to Qiaoqiao’s perspective (Jia’s immortal muse Zhao Tao) when she wanders an increasingly unrecognizable country in search of Long-Lost Lover bin (Li Zhubin), who left her hometown in Datong, seeks new financial prospects. Politics, ideas. ”

This spring premiere of “Caught by Tide” is right in time for a channel program for Chinese filmmakers Jia’s best films, including “Ash is Purest White”, “Mountains can deviate”, “A touch of its”, “24 City”, “Still Life”, “Platform” and more.
