In reflection, the fear of Y2K was a stupid thing. For those who do not remember/are too young, it was a mild general panic in 1999 that had people concerned computers would deceive all over the world on New Year’s Eve and leave the world in a Mad Max-Styled apocalypse. It didn’t end … But what happens if it did? That question answered in director Kyle Mooney’s Upcoming horror comedy Y2K.
If you are of the millennial generation, this Y2K The trailer probably feels like a nostalgibombe, from the clothing styles, to the Chumbawumba soundtrack to Blink-and-miss-it coming by Limp Bizkit Frontman Fred Durst. It also looks like a fun mix of The classic of the 2000s Superbad (note: Jonah Hill is a producer) and Stephen King’s Maximum exaggeration -With a group of teenagers who dare to a special party and are who are handling a violent techno-worshiping.
Jaeden Martell and Julian Dennison the star as a couple of high schools sneak into a New Year’s Eve so that Martell’s character may have the opportunity to talk to the girl he has a crusher on (Rachel Zegler). However, things stop getting off the rails at midnight, as computers everywhere will enjoy and decide to rebel against humanity. Lachlan Watson, The Kid Laroi, Eduardo Franco, Mason Gooding, Tim Heidecker and ’90’s Legende Alicia Silverstone All co -star.
Probably Kyle Mooney knows from his time at Saturday Night LiveSince he was a role member from Season 39 (2013-2014) to Season 47 (2021-2022). In 2017 he wrote the script for the film together Brigsbybjörnand Y2K Highlights his debut as director (he also imprisoned the script with collaborator Evan Winter). In addition to his behind the scenes on the film, he also plays a crunchy stoner named Garrett in the movie.
In addition to offering what looks like a cute story of future age in the middle of a fun end of the world scenario, it seems to be a significant part of Y2K Cinematic Experience will try to capture all the references of the various 90s. I have already referred to the use of “tub humper” and performances by Fred Durst and Alicia SilverstoneBut there is also a murderer tamagotchi, gunpowered devil sticks and an airborne bootleg vhs of Varsity Blues.
Y2K Had its world premiere earlier this year at South by Southwest Film Festival, but A24 will deliver the film to the audience all over the country when the feature arrives at theaters on December 6 (arrives in the wake of the narrow Thanksgiving holiday filled with titles including Gladiator IIThe Evil and Moana 2).
