After a very successful driving in China, where it topped TV rating and became the most streamed TV series in the entire country, Wong Kar Wai’s 1990s drama “Flowers Shanghai“Will flow exclusively in North America at Criterion’s channel. Consisting of 30 sections, The show Traces the increase in a financial titanium whose wealth comes in the wake of Shanghai opening its own stock exchange.
The filmmaker was created and directed by Wong and said about the project in a statement: “I am proud to continue my long -standing relationship with the criterion with the North American debut of my first series on the criterion.
Like many of Wong’s work, “Blossoms Shanghai” contains strong romantic elements in the midst of real historical grounds. It was adapted from the award-winning novel “Blossoms” by Jin Yuceng, which follows China’s economic boom in the 1990s seen through Ah Bao’s eyes, a figure that many will get to know as Jay Gatsby in Shanghai. Starts as a simple, ordinary man without standing, ah soon becomes a self -made millionaire, but must fight to keep his wealth when others try to destroy him.
AH is played by the very popular Chinese actor Hu GE, whose credits include Jackie Chan-produced “The Myth” and the Chinese historical drama “Nirvana in Fire”, for which he got the best actor at Shanghai TV Festival 2016.
The episodic series represents the third paragraph in a trilogy About Wong’s native Shanghai, including “In the Mood for Love” and “2046”, but the first to reflect a story to take place at his actual birthplace. All three now have a home with Criterion Collection, where the first two are presented in their “World of Wong Kar Wai” box set. Other films included in this extensive collection are “As Tears Go by”, “Days of Being Wild”, “Chungking Express”, “Fallen Angels” and “Happy Together”, all of which now flow via Criterion Channel.
“In mood for love” will also return to theaters this summer to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary. You can capture Hong Kong Historical Romance with Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung from June 27 at NYC at the IFC Center and film at the Lincoln Center, with a national roll -out to follow. Criterion will also stream “Blossoms Shanghai” in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand at some point in the near future.
