It has been almost 20 years Wallace & Gromit have been involved in a long movie caper, and the wait is almost over. Thanks to Netflix’s new trailer for the big (stop) movie Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowlwe now know that the scheme for upcoming 2025 movies will be kicked off in part by the return of our small town boys.
And believe it or not, even as a longtime fan of Aardman Animation’s landmark, there’s a laugh in this trailer that almost made me spill my morning coffee. Which makes me tip my gloved hat to the dastardly Feathers McGraw. As you can see above, the short but sweet images include a nice look at the would-be archenemy at the heart of Vengeance Most Fowllooks quite comically evil.
Which, in a moment of serendipity, is the point at which I needed to put down my morning cup. You see, it’s not just the fact that Feathers plays Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” because that’s a skill all good villains should have. That’s especially true when you’re a character like Feathers, who is still a great example of one the villain who has stolen the show for over 30 years
And that’s not even his trademark disguise of rubber gloves, or the “World’s Best Boss” coffee mug. Rather, it is a combination of these factors, along with the conscious nod that Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’s feathered criminal gives before you take a sip, it really does the job.
What is surprisingly missing are any kind of movies involving Vengeance Most Fowl’s cracking thingNorbot. I still don’t trust the potential mechanized threat as far as I can throw one, and they look pretty light for an automaton. But what we do get is a spectacular collection of moments that highlights how much blockbusters from some of them best action movies still influence Wallace & Gromit cannon.
The train slide alone makes me think of Gromit in a similar position Tom Cruises Ethan Hunt towards the end of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Which again proves why he is one of them most beloved sidekicks in all TV and movies, because he can capture that kind of moment with a wordless charm and let his face do the talking.
Not to mention my love for James Bond movies makes me wonder about Feather’s organ including lair, and that periscope we saw shown off in an earlier part of the trailer. Is this beaked bad boy taking some cues from The spy who loved me and on the way to the open sea?
There is huge potential for a new generation of fans to be created with the release of Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowland it is perhaps the most exciting potential staring us right in the face. With 35 years spanning the first grand day and the end of this new picture’s release, it’s truly rewarding to see how the technology has evolved, while the humor is as charming as ever.
