When you are preparing to play a pair of pairs for Andrew Ahn’s converts of the “ofThe wedding banquet” Bowen yangThe Lily GladstoneThe Kelly Marie TranAnd he Gi-chan felt that the best way to do that was to take in the challenges with real relationships. During A new interview with the Los Angeles TimesThe role reflected on their shared view of the showtime docu series “Part therapy,” which contains actual sessions between the partners and therapist Orna Guralnik and how it helped to unite them.
“”Couples therapy“Show, I think, was very instrumental to speed up something between the four of us,” said Yang, who suggested the show for the fourth season. “I will always protect the moments of us looking at it together.”
Although he did not watch a lot of reality -TV, “loved” loved “to look at” couples therapy “together and let it inform the character She would play.
“Finding a show where human behavior was central to solving these interpersonal issues that couples have, I thought it was a brilliant thing to take on, intentionally or not,” Gladstone said. “That’s what good storytellers do. You find other stories to support the one you tell you.”
One of the elements “couples therapy” communicates so beautifully is that you do not have to be the sum of your past life experiences and to accept love is often a choice you have to actively make. Tran felt that this echoed into the larger production because no one had to explain “what the chosen family was.” Since the “wedding banquet” also handles the challenges that many LGBTQ individuals face, Tran also appreciated how everyone involved could relate to the experience being depicted.
“I remember that I constantly had different crew members who came to us and just say how special it was to be on a queer set, because so many of them were queer too and had never worked with something that was mainly queer in her role and its crew,” she said. “It was just this infectious feeling on the set – it just felt really magical.”
This was especially true for him. Coming from Korea, these types of conversations have not often had, and these types of characters and relationships must not be explored.
“By filming this movie, I learned about the selected family and how Queer Community outside Korea works,” Hand said. “Before that, I didn’t know anything … But now I talk in these interviews and answer all these questions (and I keep learning) more about global questions and LGBTQ society, but it’s a whole new experience for me.”
“The Wedding Banquet” will be released in theaters April 18 from Bleecker Street.
