One year after ”The subject” made a splashing on Cannes and swept award season, star Margaret Qualey Have reflected on why the project was something of “a nightmare” for her.
IN filmQualley played Sue, the younger version of the aging actress Elizabeth (Demi Moore), who is struggling to take the (literal) limelight from her spawn. The sci-fi movie landed Moore a number of best actress nods, including a nomination at Oscars.
Told Qualley Cosmopolitan That the “subject” made her confront “generations of trauma” in her own family. Qualey’s mom is colleague actress Andie MacDowellWhich actually counts Moore as another former co -star (the duo was in “St. Elmo’s Fire” together).
“” The subject “was like getting into the eye of the storm. It was like dealing with all my shit, my mom’s crap, generations of trauma,” Qualley said. “It was a nightmare, like this idyllic, youthful fembot. Nobody thinks of themselves.
She continued, “What I will take home with me, for sure, is Demi Moore. She is such a special person. She is strong and she is wise, but she is also incredibly soft and porous … I learned so much from her. She has become one of my dearest friends.”
Qually’s cosmopolitan cover also nods to the film’s themes: Macdowell was presented on the cover of Cosmopolitan’s September 1982 number, and now Qualley is in the autumn of 2025 covers for the 60th anniversary issue.
Qualy also spoke about her Latest role in “Honey Don’t!,” Who reunites her with “Drive -Away Dolls” movie creator Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke. Qualley plays a queer detective that examines a cult in the dark comedy. “I trust that all girls can solve a fucking murder mystery with Instagram, to be honest. But my character is very safe and talkative. She is not a woman with few words. I think I have sometimes made myself comfortable by beating myself.
