The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Going back in time to watch the film’s future. Indiewire may announce that AMPAs are hosted for a screening series entitled “Cyberpunk: Ervitting Esiman Futures through Cinema” on Paris theater in NYC that will bind into the museum’s exhibition of the same name.
The series is programmed to follow the exhibition the first opened 2024. The curated “Cyberpunk” exhibition will be displayed at the museum until April 12, 2026. Curation “Cyberpunk” is part of PST Art: Art & Science Collide Initiative, presented by Getty.
Movies such as “Blade Runner” (1982), “Videodrome” (1983), “The Matrix” (1999) and more are presented among the over 25 titles shown. Views will take place every week from Sunday, August 10 to Wednesday, September 24.
Cyberpunk is invoiced as a subgenre of science fiction, with the category that first appears in the early 1980s on the screen. As the press description for the series says, Cyberpunk stories “merged technical progress with social upheaval, ecological crisis and urban decay are central to these stories are rebellious characters that fight against corrupt political systems, technology that has raised and global mega companies.” The inspiration for sub -genre ranges from series to manga, with Cyberpunk the themes that are often used to center perspectives from marginalized people and imagine more liberated future.
