The Sundance Film The festival is ready for its new home – Boulder, Colorado – From 2027. But the next 2026 edition will be the last of the festival (for now!) In Park City, Utah, where Sundance has lived since early days as the American film and video festival 1981.
As previously announcedSundance 2026 will take place on January 22-February-1, and we expect great presence when long-term festival guests and the industry go down on Utah again to say goodbye before the boulders move. Colorado College Town knocked out Cincinnati and Salt Lake City after the festival gig Started exploring floating speakers 2024, with Boulder chosen for its mountain view, reminiscent of Park City’s own as well as its lively art community.
Sundance Film Festival Director Eugene Hernandez shared a letter with press on Monday 14 July and describes how Sundance’s Final Park City Bow will honor his long -standing Utah Hub and co -founder Robert Redford. The film program will contain 90-plus features and 50-plus shorts, along with the festival’s beyond film series that includes panels and conversations. Again, Main Street in Park City will be only pedestrians for 2026, which helped to relieve car traffic around festival places in 2025.
Programming will also celebrate Redford’s overall festival inheritance and his work as founder of the Sundance Institute at the annual collection event Sundance Film Festival in Utah Ski -Skidstaden.

The 2026 Sundance Film Festival Is only six months away, and today I am happy to share some details and updates on our upcoming edition in Utah. This year it will mean so much for so many reasons. Our focus is to do the 2026 festival – in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 22 – February 1 – one to remember, a celebration full of gratitude and joy.

Robert Redford’s belief in the story has been shaped independent film for over 40 years. That commitment forged Sundance Film Festival. From the artists who premiere their new works to the audience that join a discovery, our stories on and off the screen during each festival are the ones we remember for a lifetime, those that change culture and introduce new perspectives. It is these moments that cross and weave together into a uniform, evolving story about the festival.
The Sundance Institute is a non -profit organization that is dedicated all year round to strengthen artists and raise independent story. We are inspired every year to put on the festival, our largest artist program, where we will introduce the audience to brand new films and projects created by both and established artists. We also look forward to showing our appreciation to the Utah community as a whole that has supported the festival for so many years and laid the foundation. The Sundance Institute is activated by our continued commitment with Utah all year round.
No conversation about our lasting assignment is complete without celebrating the commitment to our Sundance Institute president and founder, Redford, whose vision we will honor at this year’s festival. He identified the depth of raising new voices and protecting the essence of independent stories when he first began this artistic endeavor with the support of so many others. That assignment continues today and will be coming for decades to come.

Mark your calendars
2026 Sundance Film Festival will take place in person January 22 – February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. Premieres will be held on Thursday, January 22 to Tuesday, January 27, where the audience will see films, episodic projects and more for the first time, with further views throughout the festival. As of Wednesday, January 28, we will start our happy estimate of 40-year years of seminal independent Cinema, which premiered in Park City through special shows and inheritance calls and events.
For those who want to participate in the discovery from all over the country, we will offer shows at home from Thursday, January 29 to Sunday, February 1, which will contain films in our five competition sections, including the next. Movies from other sections in our range can also choose to participate in the online festival program for limited audiences. Press and industry will have online access to the home program for the professional society, which starts a day earlier on Wednesday, January 28.
Celebrating the vision of Robert Redford
We will recognize Robert Redford’s enormous impact and his unmatched commitment to the care and development of independent narrators and their stories through the influential Sundance Institute LabsThe Sundance Film FestivalAnd then – with special moments during the 2026 festival. Mr Redford values the power to join artists directly, especially in the natural environment for Sundance Mountain Resort under Artist Lab programs, where a supportive community of visionary artists convenes and cultivates bold stories while taking creative risks guided by influential creators, as the festival, and at the festival’s year -olds and at the festival, as the festival.
As part of this estimate, we will honor Mr. Redford’s vision through our Sundance Film Festival celebration, an exceptional evening held on Friday 23 January at the Grand Hyatt Deer Valley. The annual event enables our non -profit organization to collect funds to support independent artists all year round through lab, grants and public programming that grows artists from all over the world.

Honor our Park City Legacy
Park City has been an integral part of our festival, and we are honored to show our estimate throughout the 2026 festival, including a program for archival views, restorations and special events. When we walk up and down Main Street-which will only be pedestrians again during the festival 2026! – We look forward to celebrating the cherished experiences that we built together while we looked at the future. These significant moments come from our shared history that launched some of the most iconic films that have continued to reason for decades, drive curiosity and change and achieve unforgettable experiences.
The local community all over Utah is a crucial part of the Sundance Film Festival: our dedicated institute, passionate volunteers, partners who have lifted our collections, local artists who have collaborated with us and enthusiastic audiences. Without you, the festival would not be what it is today and into the future.
The coming year will be the culmination at our annual collection in Park City for the Sundance Film Festival. As you may know, the festival will move to Boulder, Colorado, from 2027. Yes, this is a big change, but right now it is important for us to take this moment and admit all the milestones and memories that we have shared together in Park City.

We look forward to presenting our world premieres and shows at our valued arenas in Park City, Utah, including Eccles Theater, Holiday Village Cinemas, Library Center Theater, The Ray Theater and Redstone Cinemas, and return this year to the Yarrow Theater).
In Salt Lake City, where so many of our beloved audience members also go with us, we will return to Salt Lake Film Society’s Broadway Center Cinemas and Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
Our filmmaker Lodge on Main Street in Park City will host in addition to film programming, with additional conversations that happen at the box at The Ray and Park which acts as a private event site.

Award ceremony
This event is when the artists gather when we honor their performance and commitment to create risk-taking, trailblazing works. 2026 Sundance Film Festival Jury and Audience Awards will be distributed on Friday 30 January at a ceremony at the Ray Theater in Park City.
