The future of ”Star Trek“Is here and it really goes boldly to some new and undetected places. (Check out our ranking of every ‘Star Trek’ Live-Action show). The message from Paramount +’s presentation for the franchise July 26 at San Diego Comical-ConHall H is not boundary and format-pushing alone: it is clear that they want to package new things with some heavy doses of the acquaintance-big stars, beloved returning franchisees and some sweetness.

There are lots of new faces there for the 32-century show, as much of the actors are teenage and 20 newcomers. And it is set for a period of time, after “Star Trek: Discovery” that allows for a whole new story completely unlimited by the existing cannon. But there are also very unknown things, and the audience may need a small dose of the familiar to anchor them.
So “Starfleet Academy” Have a couple of top stars – both Oscar winners, not less – to give appropriate gravitas: hell yes, Holly Hunter bark Was someone leading the next generation into the future as a chancellor for the Starfleet Academy-who would not trust her with her children in the college age during the 32nds or now? And Paul Giamatti adds just the right edge of threats, whistling the “Star Trek” theme as his “Klingon Hybrid” villain, to let us know that Starfleet looks better.
Then there is a returning favorite in Robert Picardos The Doctor, who is apparently not only another hologram in his series, but literally exactly the same doctor from “Voyager” who has survived more than eight centuries to get his story to continue on this show. Continuity with its bow from that show is something Showrunners Alex Kurtzman and carefully Landau promises. (There is also Tig Notaro returns from “Discovery” as Jett RenoSomething she told Indiewire that she much wanted to do.)
And there are a couple of exciting calls to keep the fans connected as well: there is a Jem’hadar Starfleet officer? (A member of the threatening war species from “Deep Space Nine.”) And another mysterious “DS9” call, as a computer screen at the Title Academy seems to have information about the related to the fate of that show captain Benjamin Sisko – did he die at the end of that series, or did he live on? Whether it is just a wasted moment or a teaser for a deeper exploration of the “Starfleet Academy” remains to be seen.
And over the “Star Trek” portfolio presented in Hall H, this model of some knowledge was mixed with the new things as a kind of sweetener to make swallowing the unknown more tasty everywhere.
For the first time ever, “Star Trek” is making a push into the audio storytelling space with “Star Trek: Khan,” A podcast about the Legendary “Trek” Villain in his years after his introduction on the “original series” episode “space seed”. Alpha V. Naveen Andrews, The Actor Fancast for Years as Khan (and should have been cast in “Star Trek Into Dark”), will express the character.
Andrews will be united by a couple of returning veterinarians: George Takei as Captain Hikaru Sulu and Tim Russ as Young Ensign Tuvok. In the years following Khan’s last defeat, they reveal more information that allows Khan’s story to develop in Flashback. This is a canon -friendly way to present this story that we know from a “Voyager” section from the 90s that Tuvok served with Sulu on board USS Excelsior. And finally, “Star Trek” is nothing but a good gimmick, and “Strange New Worlds” teased that during season 4 there will be a section that is completely staged with dolls created by Jim Henson workshop. It does nothing to counteract our fee as “Strange New Worlds” is perhaps a little too far into the unclearBut it shows the elasticity of “Star Trek” to enable so many different kinds of stunts. It also reminds me of how 2005 as a joke in April Fool’s Day, announced the startrek.com website that “Star Trek: Enterprise” would continue but only via puppet to reduce costs. For a second, teenage people believed me. But I guess I only had to wait 20 years for some puppet -based story in “Star Trek” to become a reality.
