‘SNL50: Homecoming Concert’ Recap: A suitable musical tribute

Map with a tribute to the Blues Brothers from tonight’s host Jimmy FallonLast night’s “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert ”pulled out all the stops to celebrate the show’s rich musical history, as well as the influence music has had on its comedy. And although Fallon made sure to start the deal in Radio City Music Hall by pointing out that everyone in the room had some kind of connection to “Saturday Night Live“And was not there as a relaxed spectators, looked at home, it is clear that production worked hard to place fans of staple kind of series right at the center of the action.

Tonight’s first singer was Miley Cyrus. After a reproduction of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” together with the roots (they served as the house band for the evening) and Brittany Howard, Cyrus gave a special cry to Lorne Michaels Before you started into their own latest hit song “Flowers.” The pop hymn brought everyone up and set the energy for an evening that turned out to be both rough and funny.

Bad Bunny was the next with “Baile Inolvideble” and “DTMF”, followed by a special look by Bill Murray who played his “SNL” singer Nick Valentine – who fit in view of the celebration was held during Valentine’s Day. Murray’s Valentine was backed up by other former role members Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph and Cecily Strong, all of whom sang to “You are everything I need to get by” before I introduced rock legend Eddie Vedder.

Vedder performed a tribute to Tom Petty with a reproduction of “The Waiting”, as did the song “Corduroy” from his band Pearl Jam. Tracy Morgan then went to the stage to sing the theme song for its “SNL” character Astronaut Jones, a fun Ditty, but one that is quickly overshadowed by the B-52’s that brought the house down with “Love Shack.” Even current role members Sarah Sherman and Bowen Yang, as well as Fred Armisen on drums, joined the iconic band on stage to help.

While the next documents of Backstreet Boys and Devo both brought their individual flare into the evening (even forced audience member Jerry Seinfeld to sing along), it was Lady Gaga and Andy Samberg that reminded everyone in the crowd the great impact of “SNL.” By performing a medley of Lonely Island songs including “D ** K in a box”, “Jack Sparrow”, “I’m on a boat” and even “Lazy Sunday” Taccone and T -Pain. Vedder also came into fun by going in for Michael Bolton as Jack Sparrow.

As if this was not enough, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean also made a rare look to perform a medley that included her found to “kill me softly with her song.”

Another huge highlight in the evening was to see Will Ferrell and Gasteyer repeat their music-educating couple, Marty and Bobbi Mohan-Culp, for a division of modern hit songs that had the audience into seams. Songs sung by the two included Britney Spears “Work Bitch”, Sam Smith and Kim Petra’s “Unholy”, Megan Thee Stallions “Body”, Doechii’s “Denial is a river” and Chappell Roans “Happiness to, Babe!” But the real showstoppere turned out to be Kendrick Lamars Drake Diss-Track “Not Like Us.”
