Seth Rogen celebrated the world premiere of its apple TV+ Series “The studio” on SXSW on Friday, March 7. He writes, leads and executive produces the show, which parodies Hollywood’s internal work. Rogen depicts the fictional studio manager Matt Remick, who is the newly appointed head of the embedded continental studios.
“It was directly inspired by all the people we work with and all the years and years we have spent to make studio films,” he told Indiewire. “We have mainly worked in the studio system and so we have become close friends with many of these people and we have seen how difficult it is for them. Many of them really like movies and are real movie people. ”
“The fact that they have a job where they constantly put in a position where they have to disappoint their idols and destroy things that may be good – it is very comical, honest,” he continued. “That’s really what we would see over and over again.”
His role shows a very realistic depiction of the good, the bad and the ugly of what a studio head has to deal with. When it comes to whether it was inspired by a real person, Rogen said: “We spent a lot of time making films on Sony, and then I would say that it is partly inspired by our time at Sony, (with) much of our experience when we were younger.”
The series has a huge amount of komos, from such as Martin Scorsese And Ron Howard, to more indie people like “Funny Pages” director Owen Kline and “past life” indie darling Greta Lee. Together with co -creator Evan Goldberg, Rogen wanted to make an attempt to highlight a wide range of stars to highlight different studio -specific situations.
“For someone like Sarah Polley, for example, we tried to show that this studio is trying to make prices of prices,” Rogen said. “She just won an Oscar. She is also known for being very nice and caring, so this idea that I and her have an incredibly conflict -filled dynamic on the show seemed very fun. She is also someone I worked with a long time ago and just always thought she was funny. I thought it would be good to see that side of her. People like parks Finn, it’s like some people were very specific roles, as far as they fit into Hollywood and the types of movies they did before. ”
“Rogen makes its usual high panic comedy, which still works pretty well after all these years, but Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara take down the house,” Ben Travers wrote in his review of the show. “The latter thrives during the sometimes long tags worked and lean on their background in improvisation comedy to listen, react and take command as needed. As Continental’s former studio head, Patty, she is indelibly sensitive one minute and equally demented next. ”
“The Studio” premieres March 26 with the first two episodes, followed by a section every Wednesday to May 21, Apple TV+. Check out the trailer here.
