Just hours after winning a Sundance Film Festival AwardThe Isabel Castro’s Documentary “Selena and Los Dinos” has been removed from the festival’s streaming website. That’s because, as Indieview understands, viewers at home uploaded self -recorded clips of film to social media.
On Friday afternoon, the festival sent an e -mail message to Accredited Press and noted the removal. It read: “The Sundance Film festival and the creative team ‘Selena and Dinos“Are sorry to inform our viewers that the film has been hit by a series of intrusion into copyright and must therefore be removed from the Sundance Film Festival Online Platform. We regret that you will no longer be able to access the film on the platform. We admit and Sorry that this can cause disappointment, but part of our commitment to advocating for independent filmmakers ensures that they can protect their art that they have created and serve their lives – now and in the future.
The E -mail message concluded: “We take copyright infringement extremely seriously and intend to cooperate with local, state and federal law enforcement.”
During the five years making their range available online for ticket holders, starting in 2021 when the festival temporarily went virtual because of the Covid-19-Pandemic, no other movie is believed to have been drawn from the platform due to similar problems.
A source tells Indiewire that the issue originates from the viewers who publish their own clips of the film on social media. It is not a problem with the content of the film itself, which includes a treasure chest of archive films and follows the life and career of the beloved late Tejano -pop star Selena Quintanilla.
