An unexpected – and honestly pretty charming – theme for this year’s New York Film Festival? Family. Especially, creative Families. Look no further than today’s latest range message, with the festival’s Spotlight slate, designed as a “selection of 12 significant and expected features.”
The most obvious meaning? Film creation as the family’s endeavor. Among the elections for this year’s spotlight episode: new works from Rebecca Miller (the five-part documentary “Mr. Scorsese”) and Her son Ronan Day-Lewis (“Anemone”), the latter stars no less than Daniel Day-Lewis, who is of course husband of Miller and father of the younger day-Lewis. Even on the offer, the latest movie from Ben Stiller, which is about his own iconic parents, Jerry Stiller and Anna Meara and is entitled “Stiller & Meara: Nothing is lost” (and, yes, various members of Stiller’s family will appear in the film, including his wife and children).
This year’s Spotlight section contains three world premieres, two American premieres and six premieres in New York, as well as nine short films shown in two programs. Beyond Dag-Lewis, Miller and Stiller Picks, Spotlight will also play home to new Richard Linklater movies (“Blue Moon” and “Nouvelle Vague”), the powerful documentary “Put your soul on your hand and walk” Geeta Gandbhir’s Much-Talked-ab “scale” and Harlet “, and the Harslet”. As announced on Monday, the episode Will open with Scott Cooper’s “Springsteen: deliver me from nowhere.”
As was also previously announced, FragranceThe choice of opening evening is The North American premiere of Luca Guadagninos “After the Hunt”; The North American premiere of Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” is the choice in the middle piece; and The world premiere of Bradley Cooper’s “Is this thing on?” Is the choice closing night.
