Pulse Nightclub Survivor turns to bodybuilding


Maris Curran found a creative partner in the documentary ”Jeannett. “The personal feature, which is managed in a Vérité style, captures the ties between director Curran and subject-turned-Confidante Jeannette Feliciano who survived Massacre. “Jeannette” is about how Queer’s single mother Feliciano turned to competitive bodybuilders to navigate her trauma and help heal other survivors. The film won the audience award on the number and one Complete the Jury Award during their tour at the festival circle.

The official synopsis reads: “In the aftermath of Orlandos Pulse Nightclub -Mass shooting, Jeannette seeks support and healing through her community as she continues to train with survivors at the gym. When her life begins to calm, Hurricane Maríahits Puerto Rico and Jeannette is thrown back to Kris. the relentless existence of the relentless existence with the reality of living through trauma. ”

Curran, who debuted with the FECTION Director with “Five Nights in Maine” with David Oyelowo and Rosie Perez, produces “Jeannette” with Jon Coplon. Jen Rainin, Rivkah Beth Medow, Penelope Wong and Crystal Gurin Executive Produce.

When we met, Jeannette and I knew something of ourselves in each other. We are both tough feminine queer women who have handled sexual and physical violence. In our core, each of us was formed in response to violence that we met as girls and later women, and much of our adult lives has been used to articulate the personal impact of violence and is not yet defined by it, “Curnan said in a pressure.” At the end of the day, the film is a manifestation of a relationship Jeannette and I forced over four and a half years. Feliciano added to make the named documentary was part of her own healing process and led her to ask how people can use her own previous struggles to help others.

“I’m watching this movie as if I watch life – I want this movie to inspire people to continue, no matter what they can go through,” Feliciano said. “We are all warriors but it requires the strong mental desire to never quit. We fight everyone, we all go through something and I hope this movie gives people an example of resilience for their own lives.”
