In October 2018 American pie Star announced that he was a year sober in a festive and encouraging Instagram post.
“I first tried to become sober over 5 years ago, when the importance of my obsession with liquor and drugs became too heavy for me to handle,” he wrote at that time. “It turns out that this is difficult.”
He continued, “After a few passes and starts, I have managed to put together a year of sobriety. I am just as proud of it as everything in my life. If you are fighting, it knows that there is help. Don’t embarrass you. We can do this.”
Years later, he reflected on his journey with addiction and the lengths he went to hide his struggle.
“I go to therapy and” work with things “but in the meantime I leave therapy, have just had a good session, and I am going to the liquor store and buy a fifth of vodka, drink it and then drive home,” he said on a section 2024 by his wife by his wife Jenny MollenS All the failures Podcast. “I knew how to be wasted where I got out of the life equation, took myself out of the present, did not have to connect in a way that made me feel things.”
He added, “I had figured out to a T. not to get too full where I couldn’t talk to you. I replaced those bottles at the bar all the time.”
