Nate Bargatze stays at what he knows best when he grows up to host the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Standup comedian sold more than one million tickets for his tour last year, making him the highest gross comedian in the country. He has been doing comedy for over two decades and told Thewrap at a certain point all you can do is trust that the work is done.
“By doing comedy for 22 years, I have learned that, even when I do comedy or even standup, you had to trust that there has been a lot of training,” he said.

Known for his dead-panned comic and self-proclaimed “Big Dumb Eyes” title on his best-selling book and sold out standup-tour-Bargatze said not to expect any kind of song and dance from the comedian. After talking to previous hosts and series, such as Conan O’Brien, Lorne Michaels, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Nikki Glaser, Bargatze said that the same message was true: “Just do you.”
The pure, apolitical comic said that is likely what you can expect from him on Sunday evening, but host comes with some roasting. For the nominee himself, Bargatze said that he will make fun of himself as much as anyone in the audience.
“I want to feel different,” he said. “If we talk about them, I want to do it in a way that has not been done.”
“When the celebrities are there, do you want to be able to see them afterwards and it is not strange. Joking will of course be a bit meaningful. That’s the only way it will be fun,” he added. “We will have jokes about shows, but I don’t try to be, I don’t want to make anyone sad.”
The standup has introduced a new twist as he takes the reins for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. The comedian set up a $ 100,000 donation to Boys and Girls Club of America, but the twist is that for every second, an acceptance number goes over 45-seconds brand that the children will receive $ 1,000 drawn from the price fund.
“The children will be there and see it and feel it,” he said, noting that a few boys and girls’ club will participate. “So thanks your other boss who is worth taking food from a child? I don’t think so, but we’ll see what Hollywood thinks.”
However, the comedian’s week is not just about Emmys. Bargatze has three shows to go before he met the stage in Los Angeles Sunday evening. He has a show Friday and two exhibitions Saturday in Denver. The standup said he is happy in the chaos.
“I like it’s crazy,” he said. “It will be nice not just sitting around. I get to do three shows and then be ready to get back on Sunday and be in the way to be funny.”
Unlike the Golden Globes host Glaser, Bargatze said that the gigs will not necessarily be heating shows for his Emmys material. He said there will be a list of jokes to run past their audience before the big night. He annoyed that his material will be somewhat script but will also be fluid at the moment.
Nashville natives appeal to their audience to their record-life comedic style and makes fun of pedestrian trials in everyday life. He said that tournament of the country has given him a better meter on what makes the Americans laugh today.
“I’m not political in my things. I’m trying to be a little evergreen in that kind of world. And I can see, you know, you can feel that they appreciate it,” he said. “It’s hard. You’re in LA, we’re all around the same people in the industry, and then you can swallow it up. Making stand up comedy, it’s a huge advantage.”
Bargatze was nominated twice this year for outstanding variation special and outstanding writing for his Netflix special “Your friend, Nate bargatze”, but he lost to “SNL50: The Jubilee Special.”
