Sometimes filmmaking can really be an excuse for nerds to investigate things. Author and director Isaiah Saxon Spent years developing ”The legend of and in“Being a fantasy adventure that looks and feels like it can take place in a last undetected corner of the world, one where the mysterious primate and navigates that lives on the outskirts of human civilization. This required a lot of preparation and planning, collaboration with artists and designers and puppets, but also a lot of wikipedia diving.
“I have become an amateurprimatologist by making ( film), “Saxon told Indieview.” In the larger image of writing against these zoological elements, (I look) at everything that is on the internet. I read Wikipedia articles about one toxic primate and how does it actually work? I read about Tarsiers and Lemurs and the sociological structures in Bonobos. ”
All this research was eventually merged into and in, a species of scavenger primates with a unique, throat’s ability to communicate with each other and, miraculously, with a human girl (Helena Zengel) who rescues a child from her father (Willem Dafoe) Hellbent to eradicate the creatures he sees as monsters.
“I was like,” let’s invent a primat and then do our best because it feels real and grounded – but of course also has a dynamic emotional interval, “Saxon said.” We founded the design of them physically, but also their behavior and their language and social structure and all this. I wanted it to be founded in as real patterns that we can identify in nature. ”
