Late actress Satana’s story is one for the record books: An Asian American Trailblazer on the screen, Satana got her start in Burlesk (she went by the stage name “Miss Japan Beautiful” as a teenager) and continued to lead the iconic 1965 classic “Faster, Pussycat! Dead!”
While Satana’s life had all the glitter that one can imagine (she was incredibly dated both Elvis and Rod Taylor), her traumatic childhood partly led to her actress’s career. At the age of nine, they were kidnapped, attacked and left for death in a racially driven hate crime after the Pearlhamnen in 1948. She promised to avenge her attackers and did through her success.
Now Satana’s full story is told in the long -awaited, authorized documentary simply entitled “Tour!” filmdirected by Cody Jarrett and In the works since 2017is told Margaret Cho And includes interviews with John Waters, Dita von Teese, Pamela des Barres, Ted V. Mikels, Original FPKK and Russ Meyer members and Satana’s two daughters. “TURA!” Uses home films, never before seen cult films and the personal archives of the late Satana.
The film is invoiced as Satana visiting her “innermost feelings when she experienced the events that shaped and influenced her and those around her, from childhood to her (passing) in 2011.” Director Jarrett helped Satana’s last movie, “Sugar Boxx.”
“Anyone who ever met Tura Satana came away with something unforgettable. She radiated,” Jarrett said in a press release. “She was genuine. She was charming and a good listener. She was also very, funny unpredictable, sometimes Bawdy, and could still kick ass until the end. There were many popular, sexy women and cult film stars in the 1960s, but few have left the wide, lasting impact on the community as the tall, and what it deserves. And become the person we all admire so much – this is where the real love and respect begin. “
He continued, “I felt toured, and this movie is a love work, not just for me but all our roles and crews that either knew her or suffered from her on a personal level. So it was important for us to get it right; to really get to the essence of who was for himself and express her life.
