So yes, action -thriller elements or not, this is a Kurosawa movie through and through. Like most Kurosawa characters, Yoshii is not comfortable with a life of “conventional happiness”, described by an older colleague at the factory (Masataka Kubota). He blows his life on tragicomic coens-esque fashion, which leads her girlfriend Akiko (Kotone Furukawa), when she asked why she moves out of Yoshii’s assistant, “Tell him I was fucking.”
