Karla Sofía GascónThe Oscar campaign has hit another bolt on the road.
The star “Emilia Pérez”, who made history by becoming the first open trans sex artist ever nominated for an Oscar Prize, is at the receiving end of another wave of criticism of some of her previous tweets. On Thursday, users of social media began to share year old X-posts from Gascón where she criticized the reaction to George Floyd’s murder in 2020 and also expressed support for religions that “go against European values” which were banned from European countries such as her home nation of Spain.
“Let me get this straight, a guy tries to transfer a forged bill after consuming methamphetamine, an idiot police arrive and goes too far when he arrests him, kills him, destroys his family and his colleagues and turns the guy with the guy the bill into a Martyr hero, ”Gascón wrote on X (translated from Spanish) with reference to Floyd’s murder and Black Lives Matter protests as it inspired.
“I really think that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict and a Hustler,” Gascón continued. “But his death has served to highlight once again that there are those who still believe that black people are monkeys without rights and those who believe the police are murderers. Everything wrong. “
“Unfortunately, is it just my impression or are there more and more Muslims in Spain? Every time I go to pick up my daughter from school, there are more women with hair covered and their skirts down to their heels, “Gascón wrote in another tweet from November 2020.” Maybe next year instead of English we must need to teach Arabic. “
The actress added: “Until we prohibit religions that contravene European values and violate human rights, such as Islam, under the protection of freedom to worship, we will not end part of the enormous problem we are facing. Believe manipulates those who stick to faith. “
It’s so crazy that Karla Sofía Gascón still has these tweets. Straight Up has never seen tweets this racist from any active campaign to win an Oscar Prize. There is more than a dozen … pic.twitter.com/1rcnzkjxuo

The actress’s comments made many people wonder if she had violated the academy’s rules on nominated cutting other challengers. However, the Academy quickly established that Gascón had not violated the official Oscars politics and actress clarified their comments in a statement Wednesday: “I am a huge fan of Fernanda Torres and it has been wonderful to get to know her in recent months. In my latest comments, I referred to toxicity and violent hatred on social media that I unfortunately continue to experience. “
