Jordan Klepper crashes Trump’s inauguration

Even against the backdrop of one of the worst Januarys in recent memory, you can’t keep our favorite correspondent at “The Daily Show” down. Jordan Klepper is back on the road for Comedy Central tonight at 11 PM ET/8 PM PT — covering the Speaker Donald Trumps opening with man-on-the-street interviews that reveal a drastically changed Washington, DC

IndieWire can share an exclusive clip from the upcoming episode, in which Klepper — a correspondent for “The Daily Show” since 2014 — talks to MAGA supporters filling the city’s streets on Inauguration Day about Trump’s so-called Golden Age of America, as well as cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, nationalist governments, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, presidential pardons and more. The interviews came from outside the Capitol building, where the 47th president moved his inauguration ceremonies inside because of chilly temperatures and away from the promise of record crowds.

“Maybe the media that I follow doesn’t show these,” said one puzzled attendee when challenged by Klepper with a photograph showing an insurgent firing a gun in front of the capitol.

“None of them were armed,” another man said.
“Well, some of them were armed,” Klepper replied.

The segment also includes an outpouring of enthusiasm for the MAGA garbage truck (an attraction Trump drives around for a reason that you can research on your own time), and Klepper making a point about who Trump prioritized when it came to gathering his allies in the stands.

“Don’t you think that’s the perfect metaphor?” Klepper asked. “He’s in there hanging out with the billionaires and all his supporters are out in the cold.”

Assured by one supporter that the MAGA base was “prepared to be left out in the cold,” Klepper questioned why Trump’s fans wouldn’t just break into the Capitol to ensure themselves a front-row seat to the history they helped make happen. One woman remarked to Klepper that breaking a window on the centuries-old building could “hurt her hand,” but failed to explain why the man with her was dressed as… Spider-Man. With great power comes great responsibility, I guess. Good luck out there, Jordan.

The clip airs on tonight’s episode of “The Daily Show” at 11:00 PM ET/PT on Comedy Central. Watch the preview section below:
