Jim Jarmusch Keeps everything in the family. AUTEUR is reunited with a number of its often collaborators for ”Father Mom Sister Brother“Set to be Released by Mubi. “Father Mother Sister Brother” is designed as a triptych, with trio of stories all about the relationship between adult children, “their somewhat distant parent (or parents),” according to the film’s synopsis and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each one in another country: “Father” is located in the northeastern United States, “Mother” is in Dublin, Ireland and “Sister Brother” is in Paris, France. According to any Jarmusch movie, it is a character study that mixes melancholy and comedy.

“‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ is a kind of anti-action film, its subtle and silent style constructed carefully to allow small details to collect as flowers that are carefully placed in three sensitive arrangements,” Jarmusch said in a press release. “Collaborations with the masterful cinematographers Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux, the brilliant editor Affonso Gonçalves and other frequent collaborators raise what started as a word on a page to a form of pure film.”

Production designers are Mark Friedberg (“Joker”, “Paterson”) and Marco Bittner-Rosser (“Only lovers left alive”, “Tár”). Editing was led by Gonçalves (“I’m still here”, “Paterson”), with music by Jarmusch and Anika.
Jarmusch explained during the 2023 Overlook Film Festival (via The playlist) that “Father Mother Sister Brother” almost had No music at all. “It’s a very subtle movie; it’s very quiet,” Jarmusch said. “And I think music can move it too much in a way – it’s a fun and sad movie, right? It has both woven in. I don’t know if I want music to add another thing about it. It doesn’t really want it so far. “
“Father Mother Sister Brother” is produced by Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan and Attila Yücer. The film is produced and presented by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, Mubi and Fremantle Company apartment, with Jarmusch’s badjet team and Gillibert’s CG film. In Ireland, Richard Bolger and Conor Barry were produced on Hail Mary Pictures with funding from Fís éireann and Screen Ireland. Cinema Inutile brought stock financing.
