Jeff Bezos wasted no time to buy out long James Bond producer Barbara broccoli after an alleged little one.
In a new report from Hollywood ReporterAmazon’s CEO Bezos was determined to take All creative control For IP through Amazon MGM Studios – which was announced in February 2025 for a reported cost on 1 billion dollars. Days that price tag? Pure retaliation.
In December 2024, Wall Street Journal Published a paragraph where Broccoli is quoted to tell his personal friends that Amazon managers were “fucking idiots” in the middle of the collaboration with the Bond franchise.
As Thr now said, “Bezos” reads her quotation in the magazine and came on the phone and said, “I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her,” according to a named insider. The outlet also included how Broccoli brushed when Amazon Contents Jennifer Salke referred to Bond films such as “Content” and Broccoli’s half-brother Michael G. Wilson (who also ruled the Bond franchise for decades) was Is was being erected by meetings by Amazon managers.
Indiewire has reached representatives of Amazon MGM Studios for comments.
The only bond payment that has debuted since the MGM Amazon business in 2022 has been the reality series “007: Road to a Million.” And it’s been four years since Daniel Craig last played the iconic 007 character on the big screen with his franchise output in “No time to die.” As Thr noted, there is no script, no director and no actor who was yet thrown for another film; Reportedly, Broccoli would not approve any of Amazon’s proposed stars. (Aaron Taylor-Johnson was rumored in 2024 to be Frontrunner for the franchise, but no announcement was made).)
And maybe the honor will be crowdsourced instead: When Bezos buys Broccoli siblings, he asked his social media successors Who will play bond next.
Amazon is also looking to take advantage of IP with spin-offsAs British TV Professional Aaron McGahon speculated in a Marvel Studios-Espe move. Sources near the franchise claimed that Amazon was approaching Broccolis with “Ton heights for a TV series based on Moneypenny, MI6 Secretary (…) and a show about Bond Cia Buddy Felix Leiter, and maybe even something involving a woman 007.” Still, “Predictable was broccoli and Wilson was not interested.”
Wilson said earlier (via THR) after MGM sales to Amazon that he and Broccoli were “very reluctant to delegate” the use of IP for “10 or 20 hours in a TV show” instead of a feature film. Broccoli at that time added: “It’s not something we’ve ever wanted to do.”
Amazon may even have trouble finding a filmmaker to control a franchise payment, even less. Osgood Perkins recently closed the idea to direct a Bond movie and simply say on Reddit, “No, for Fuck Jeff Bezos. ”
Oscar winner Edward Berger, who directed both “Conclave” and “All Quiet on the Western Front”, was rumored to be in conversation with Bond producers Broccoli and Wilson before Amazon took over creative control. Berger told us Amount That he is no longer interested after the Amazon business was announced (he also denied the conversations with Broccolis, even though he was “100 percent” interested.)
“Barbara Broccoli is no longer doing it and she is at the heart of this project, so I think it’s something different,” Berger said. “I don’t know. Things have changed. We will surely miss her very much. (…) Now it is another equation. I do not know what the future will look like. I will think about it if someone calls me, but Barbara is the essence of this. If she is no longer there it will be another thing.”
