Tony Gilroy were barely on the way to “Andor” season 2. The series’ main author and Showrunner finished their script about a week before 2023 Writers Guild of America Strike began and forced writers of a state of “Radiolast.” When the strike ended and Gilroy returned to work, Something amazingly waiting for him: 12 Completely shot sections.
“You are always in the cliff room on a show, in a movie, and inevitably you are at the point where you say: ‘Man, I would pay $ 50,000 if I could watch my movie for the first time,'” Gilroy told IndieWire for the show’s season 2 premiere. “I got to look at all 12 episodes on the go with the freshest eyes I could ever imagine, and I got to look at what the audience would see it.”
After binging the “rough, raggy” cuts (an audience wishes – ‘Andor“Will release three episodes per week from April 22 to May 13), Gilroy was on his way to London for an editing Bonanza. Two of the show’s three directors were still there, with four cutting rooms open, and editor (and brother) John Gilroy Springer from room to room monitored the other Gilroy’s rich notes.
“Andor” Season 2 is both a marathon and a sprint. Picking up four years before the events in “Rogue One” and “A New Hope”, every three-section arc will cover three days in its rebel leader’s life-with one year between each party.
“It introduced itself very quickly,” Gilroy said about the time jumping season structure. “Oh, my God, when we come back, we should only come back for a couple of days each time. It should be the most intense three days each time … And it was one of these problem solutions that just kept running itself and then has this knock-on effect all the way. It gives me the actors. It makes time. You get it, but you will move and you will keep the show”
Gilroy ran his author’s room in the presence of executive producer Sanne Wohlenberg and production designer Luke Hull, as Chime in if needed while “watching the show rise in front of them.” Then the writers-gilroy who writes sections 1-3, Beau Willimon shared 4-6, Dan Gilroy at 7-9, and Tom Bissell at 10-12 (Ariel Kleiman leads 1-6, with Janus Metz at 7-9 and Alonso Ruizpalacios on 10-12). There was “negative space” between the sections, but Gilroy insisted on avoiding it between blocks.
