“A real pain”, “No Other Land” and “Dìdi” were among the early movie winners at the 40th annual film Independent Spirit Awards, which takes place on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. Thewrap will update the list of winners that they will be announced.
Jesse Eisenberg took home the best script for “A real pain”, Sean Wang won the best first feature and first script for “Dìdi” and “No Other Land” won in best documentary. On the TV page, “Baby Reindeer” won breakthrough performance for Jessica Gunning and support for performance for Nava Mau, while “Shōgun” won the best new script series.
The most Nominated movies Is “Anora” and “I saw the TV Glow”, with six each, while “Shōgun” led TV nominated with his five nods, followed by “Baby Reindeer” with four.
During the first 39 years of the Indie Spirit Awards, the best movie winner has won Oscar for best picture only eight times. But besides “Platoon” in 1986, all matches have come over the past 13 years.
Last year was “The Holdovers” actress Da’vine Joy Randolph and “American Fiction” screenwriter Cord Jefferson the only other winners who also took home Oscars.
To be eligible for the Spirit Awards, a movie must have a total budget of less than $ 30 million and must have been exhibited commercially or shown at one of seven film festivals. Documentaries and international films can only qualify in the specific categories.
The show is hosted by Aidy Bryant for the second year in a row and takes place in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica.
