Nomination of polls for the 77th Primetime Emmy prices were published on TV Academy’s website on Thursday to mark the beginning of voting. They were divided into 35 separate documents describing all eligible items in 107 categories, a total of 846 pages of all who are eligible.
(Not all categories are included in the laid out votes, as some use to assess panels or other methods to select nominees.)
We have looked through all these pages and learned some things. So here is an overview of the Emmy nomination vote 2025, which will last until Monday June 23.
There are fewer records than there were 2024
Last year was a rough for Emmys, with the effects of pandemic and actors and authors strikes to reduce the number of shows that did so in the air and reduce the number of items in most categories, sometimes by as much as 40%. But rather than recovering to pre-strike levels, this year’s field is also down, but not so much.
Of the 106 categories for which a comparison year by year is possible, 44 have more items this year than they did last year; Sex has the name number of items; and 56 have fewer items. Overall, the number of submissions in all categories is down – but only something, with a total reduction of 142 items scattered across all categories.
Limited series had a free year
In the program categories, Outstanding Limited or the Anthology series took the biggest hit. Only 33 series qualified, 16 fewer than last year’s total and 28 fewer than the 61 entitled titles just two years ago. This led to the three largest drops in the actress categories, all of which took place in the categories Limited Series/TV Movie: Lead Actor fell by 22, and supported the actor of 37 and supported the actress with 32.
Something similar happened up and down in the vote: in each category devoted to limited series and TV films, both above and below the line, this year saw a significant case, almost always in double -digit figures.
But we have more nominees this year
Apart from the categories for outstanding drama series and outstanding comedy, which are set to eight nominated each, the number of nominees is determined in each category of how many submissions are made in that category. If it is 20 to 80, the category gets five nominees; 81 to 160 gets sex; 161 to 240 sheep seven; Everything over 240 gets eight.
And despite the overall reduction in the submissions, more categories seem to be in line with going in size than going down this year.
In the actors, for example, the main actor in a drama series should sink from six nominees last year to five this year, and supporting the actor in a limited series should sink from seven to six. But supporting actors in a comedy should go up from six to seven, the guest actor in a drama should go up from five to six (with the guest actress after the rules dictate actors/actress equity) and artist in a short former series should go up from three nominees last year to five this year.
Overall, eight categories are in line with growing in size compared to last year; Only sex is in line to go down.

Category Hogging in the actor categories is very possible this year
For several years, a small number of shows have taken a large number of acting nominations. “The White Lotus” is a great example and dominates the supporting categories during the first two seasons by getting eight noms during the first year and nine in the second. “The Morning Show” got seven actors from their own last year, while “Success” set a record with 14 actors nominations in 2022 and band since 2023.
Could it happen again this year? Emmy polls suggest that it is possible, starting with the candidate list is from “The white lotus.” The entire 20 of the actors from the Mike Whites Show were submitted, from favorites such as Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Carrie Coon and Aimee Lou Wood to lesser known challengers such as Nicholas Duvernay, Lalisa Manobal and Charlotte Le Bon. Nine men and 10 women enter the Supporting Actor and Acts category, while Scott Glenn is the only role member in a guest category.
But while “Lotus” has had the greatest success among this year’s challengers to bring up several nominations in the past, it is not the show with the most functioning items this year. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldbergs “The studio” Has 22 entries, which include role members along with 12 film industry figures that are sent to play themselves, or at least versions of themselves: Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Ron Howard (also to play himself in “Only Murders in the Building”), Zoe Kravitz, Greta Lee, Anthony, Sara Mackie, Sara Mackie, Zoe Kravitz, Greta Lee, Anthony Mackie, Sarah Polley, Martin, Martin, Nicholas, Nichas, Nicher, Olive, Oliv Wild Wild Youssef and, most surprising, journalist Matt Belloni.
Other shows with lots of actors include “Abbott Elementary” with 12, “Hacks” with 13, “The Pitt” with 17 and “Severance” with 19. But they are all slackers compared to our next article.
“Saturday Night Live” went out
“SNL” Celebrated his 50th season by submitting an astonishing 43 different actors to Emmys. You would think they could have gone for an even 50 to match the number of seasons – but there was really no one left to come in. The “SNL” submission included every one of the Season’s 14 “Repertory Players,“ All Three of Its ”Featured Players,” Five Celebrity Guests (Dana Carvey As Joe Biden, Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, Mike Rea Ruda Ruda ruda ruda ruda ruda ruda ruda rudo rudo rudo rudo ruda ruda rudo rudo ruda rudo rudo rudo ruda rudo rudo ruda rudu ruda rudo rudo ruda rudu ruda rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rudo rud And every single one of the season’s 20 hosts, from Jean Smart to Scarlett Johansson. In addition, Darrell Hammond was submitted to tell the series’s anniversary special.
However, as good as the anniversary spirit is, the voters have cooled the show’s artists in recent years. After “SNL” was on average almost eight acting nominations per year from 2015 to 2021, on average, it has on average three over the past three years. The only role members who were nominated during that time have been Kate McKinnon once and Bowen Yang twice, plus nods for the hosts Quinta Brunson, Jerrod Carmichael, Ryan Gosling, Pedro Pascal, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig.
The choreographic category has the ultimate category-hogger
There are 34 entries in the outstanding choreography for categories of variation or reality programming. They come from shows that include Kendrick Lamars Super Bowl -Halv time show, “Rupaul’s Drag Race”, Grammys and Oscars and “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2024,” with 18 different programs delivering 18 of the nominees.
And then there are “Dancing with the stars”, which left the other 16 entries in the category. No other category has this type of imbalance, with 47% of the items from a program. But it is worth noting that while “DWTS” has received 23 Emmy nominations for choreography and won five times (placement of it a remote second to the 43 noms and 12 victories for “so you think you can dance”) it has had no more than one nomination in the category since 2021, and the only time it has had more than two in its own
Some shows are worried about voting. Others, not so much
In the categories for director and writing, “How many sections should we submit?” Has long been a tagged question. If you go into several sections, do you increase your chance of being nominated or do you make it easier to share the vote and lose completely? Pundits tend to benefit the latter theory, although it is not difficult to find examples of a popular show that lands several nominations: “The Bear” did it last year for directing and “Shogun” did it to write.
This year, many of the best challengers end with one or two entries in these categories, although it is quite common to go up to three posts in the director. In the comedy director, “Abbott Elementary”, “Agatha all the time”, “The Bear”, “Just Murder in the building”, “Runing Point” and “Somebody somewhere” is among the programs that went into a trio of section for director, while “Poker Face” and “Shrinking” were the only two shows to enter into.
However, drama director was another issue. Seventeen show went into at least three episodes, with “The Pitt”, “Paradise” and “Severrance” that stopped at three but others go much further. “The Boys” and “House of the Dragon” sent in five, “Will Trent” made sex (including a directed by Howie Deutch and one directed by his wife, Lea Thompson), “Yellowstone” made seven and Ryan Murphy’s medical drama “Doctor Odyssey” sent in 11, one of their first season heads.
Writing submissions was more modest, with “Star Wars” Spinoff series “The Acolyte” which sent eight episodes and the comedy series “The Conners” and “Poker Face” which sent five. Among the shows that got stuck with a single post were the comedies “Abbott elementary”, “hacks”, “just murder in the building”, “The right gems” and “The studio” and the dramas “The Last of Us”, “Matlock”, “Seprian”, “Slow Hore” and “The White Lotus.”
And yes, “Lotus” sent the episode with Sam Rockwell’s monologue.
