Looks like someone can bark at box-officer gardening.
IFC just expanded on October 3 Ben Leonberg’s SXSW met “Good Boy” from limited to a full wide edition. Told completely from the dog’s point of view, 72 minutes horror film Stars Leonbergs Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Indy. The exact number of screens has not yet been determined, but IFC is haussertat on its mass appeal. It is a title that can also follow the footsteps for several other recent successes from the company.
Redistributed as Independent Film Company (IFC) earlier this year, IFC now seems to have a Bona Fide here on its hands. Since the trailer’s debut August 18, It has taken up 1 million views (With another 1.5 million views for the trailer published on IGN’s account).

“We are a customized company and we really pay attention to what people want to see,” said Scott Shooman, head of IFC Entertainment Group (who monitors IFC, Shudder and Rlje Films), to IndieWire. “Last year was our second best theater year ever and we want to continue it. We see an opportunity when the studios move to the three- and four-whats business for Indies to try to find interesting, noisy product and try to make it as big as possible.”
“Good Boy” has a playlist to follow: IFC’s “Late night with the devil” and “in a violent nature” both reached about 1400 screens in 2024 and collected $ 10 million and $ 4.2 million respectively. They are also number 4 and #16 on the list of films with the highest intrusion into IFC’s history.
The top place on that list is occupied by 2002’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” with an immobile $ 241 million cash office. Shooman, however, indicated that he does not think it is a real IFC movie because it only handled the distribution in a service agreement. That would make the second title on that list, Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood”, with its $ 25 million gross as IFC’s biggest hit.
After Former President Arianna Bocco Left the company in March 2023, Shooman was installed shortly thereafter. Since then, the company is sunbathing its genreprint IFC Midnight in favor of the company’s Streamer, Shudder, which now represents all the company’s horror content. “Good Boy” will carry both the IFC and the Shudder logo, but its streaming date is TBD.
“We have different windows for different types of films, and we work with it for” good boy “when we speak,” Shooman said. “We never want to prevent a date prematurely. What we can say is that we hope everyone sees it in theaters on October 3, and this is really where we point people right now.”
“Good Boy” can follow in the footsteps of the R-ranked “Late Night with the Devil” and the unclassified “in a violent nature”, but it is also something that these Gory films were not. “It’s a PG-13 movie,” Shooman said. “I don’t think there is any age limit for loving dogs.”
