I really want to know if someone warned Jack Black about the scene after credit in the new “I know what you did last summer.” He is not in it, but it is safe to pay attention to a most forgotten wrongly from much earlier in “Minecraft Movie” The actor’s career.
Black was 29 years old when he played Titus Telesco, a white Bahamian pool boy with weeds and dreads. Director Danny Cannon’s sequel 1998 ”I Still Know what you did last summer “became critically panned, and even Diehard horror fans forget the Slasher series’ Zany Second Chapter. It is an expansion on the original story, which is on a resort on a stormy island, which reverses final girl Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt Southport -massacre.
Their undergrad happiness ends when school breaks down for the summer. Julie and her best friend Karla Wilson (Brandy) win tickets to the Bahamas on the radio, but Ray does not come because he has a job at home. The audience knows that Freddie Prinze Charming will follow Julie on vacation to suggest marriage, but she will complicate questions by finding a second freer in her handsome classmate, Will Benson (Matthew Settle).
Caught inside a scary resort by the weather, Twenty-Secninghings brews enough drama between them to drive a dramatic function. But when a new masked villain – once again to get a fisherman hook, harpoon and raincoat – start terrorizing guests and locals, a note arrives at Julie with the funny message, “I still know what you did last summer.” Translation? Any still Want to avenge for the hit-and-run accident in the first film.
The original director Jim Gillespie went aside for Cannon on the sequel, and the “Scream” genii Kevin Williamson handed his characters to screenwriter Trey Callaway with mixed results. Nevertheless, the mediocre sequel has fresh wind in its sails thanks to the director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s sequel/Restartwhich again brings together Hewitt, Prinze and several other familiar role members in theaters.

“I looked at you at the news, and you can’t catch a damn break,” says Karla, after responding to a surprise on her door near Requel’s End. Better known in the film world as CinderellaBrandy debuted in Cannon’s Slasher and she has hope for more “I know what you did last summer” with her Como 2025. (R & B-Pops sensation has only been in another genre film, last year’s deep hate-capable-cable capable “The Front Room” for A24.)
“It’s not over,” says Julie, holding up a picture of the girls from College.
Karla wastes no time to fish. She asks, “Who are we fucking this time?”
Nothing in “I know what you did last summer” (2025) is technically described as an audit history, but the events in the previous sequel are kept out of focus until this reunion. The spirit of the postal credits The scene does not exactly match the movie the references (Brandy will be on the 1998 follower more than I want to admit), but you should look at it myself.
Sometimes painfully troublesome but also wonderfully deceptive, “I still know what you did last summer” opens with a scary dream in a Catholic confession and goes sideways from there. Julie is wrapped with guilt, but not even the poorly advised character Black games should feel bad about this most harmless stink of a movie-a artifact that should not inspire nostalgia but … do it?
Brain on your knowledge of Brazilian geography (I swear to God), this violent maritime puzzle combines a stupid whodunit with a shallow story that is not as satisfactory as the first film. That said, what it lacks in function it compensates with a number of puzzling creative decisions that are really something to see. Black’s Drug Dealer character is the set sun on that whack horizon, doomed to die based on … Yes, all About him … but he’s on the screen long enough to ruin a Jacuzzi makeout for Karla and her boyfriend, Ty (Mekhi Phifer). You will be as annoyed as they are when Titus exceeds his welcome, and his death is almost for Dorky to take. But there is only something with him – flowing in a pool, joint in his mouth, the mysterious new fisherman who lurks nearby – which people tend to like.
Sure, Black plays on dated archetypes in a movie that unfortunately also contains a messy subplan about voodoo. (That’s good. You can ignore it. I give you permission.) But whether Black received that warning about the post -credits in the new Requel or not, this special performance will come back to haunt him really screams, “I still know what you did last summer. ”
“I still know what you did last summer” is now available to rent or buy on most platforms.
Bit: “No! Seriously! Don’t do it!”
My critical opinion on the wild sharing “Halloween Kills” from 2021 has waxed and subsided over the years. But I claim that too many of us fail to catch the intricate small details that make the best restarts that are specific to older sequels.
No one remembers “Halloween II” as if they remember the original “Halloween”, and even less can be said for fans of “I still know what you did last summer” compared to Gillespie’s film from 1997. It makes sense that Easter eggs referring to follow -up films that many have not seen would fly over the relaxed viewer’s head. But we saw “I know what you did last summer” follower from 27 years ago, after just looking out the Requel this weekend you get a stronger appreciation for the tribute when your commitment to the franchise is deepened.
In other words, you and Ray should have got your donkeys to the Bahamas a long time ago. (Yes, I am aware that the film is largely managed from Mexico’s coast. No one asked you.)
From Slapstick Mannequin fake-outs to a Sarah Michelle Gellar Cameo who could control the tide, “I know what you were doing last summer” (2025) sets up the potential for a modern franchise that has not been confirmed but is fun to imagine. Requel ignores the events in the much less other sequel-the direct-to-video “I will always know what you did last summer” from 2006 and treat Southport’s history as a duology.
There is no way that you would know that it is going in, but if I have a regret to look back on my “B+” review of the new edition, it is that I did not recommend “I still know what you did last summer” enough strong. There is much to be said about the emotional incite that it offers fans in the dark romance of possible divorces, Julie and Ray. But it also draws up the lively staggeringness that makes these films most devoted fans accepting the arrival of a ghost at a beauty contest with a smile that says: “You kill it Ghoul.”
When Titus finally meets his passing, he hits a bong and the fisherman puts his hand to the coffee table with a hook. When the killer is looking for another weapon Squawks, “No! Seriously! Don’t do it!” Caught somewhere between a stoner from “School of Rock” and Kung Fu Panda on a tropical Bender, is black funny and definitely camp.
“I still know what you did last summer” is not very good, but the original is not. Gillespie directed Williamson’s script (which was a deliberate step away from horror comedy after “scream”) as a melodrama. The property was loved just because it lacked self -awareness in a way that the audience could laugh. “I know what you did last summer” (2025) also shares that feeling of humor, and if the series continues, I hope they find a way to restore the spirit of Titus … even if Black shoots away from a ghost como.
