Good times never seemed so good in the first trailer for “Song Sung Blue” Craig BrewerS new inspirational romance drama with the lead role Hugh Jackman And Kate Hudson as members of a Neil Diamond tribute band that in love. Best of all-other thing than Jackman’s long jet-black hair in tribute to diamond-it is based on a true story.
Brewer has charmed audience in recent years with “Dolemite is my name” and “Will 2 America,” Although his first big breakout hit was the Oscar winner 2005 “Hustle & Flow.” Stories about great personalities, often in the entertainment world, are his specialty, and he writes and directs “Song Sung Blue.” The Focus Features edition seems to be a prime candidate as a crowdpleaser and possible awards when it releases December 25.
What is particularly exciting about “Song Sung Blue” is that it is a Jukebox musical that plays many of the best hits from Diamond’s extraordinary catalog with songs, but it also tells an original story. After all, diamond fans already got a simple biopic from Broadway (and national tournament) stage production of “A beautiful noise.” This goes in a different direction, to show how the power of an artist’s songbook can add to the life of two people who admire it deeply. Think in the same way as Gurinder Chadha’s tribute to Bruce Springsteen fandom, “blinded by the light.”
It is also a welcome opportunity to hear Jackman sing on the screen and bring showmanship that the audience has had from him on Broadway (most recently in “The Music Man”) as well as in movies such as “The Greatest Showman.” Just don’t call Jackman’s character “a neil diamond impersonator.” As Hudson’s character expresses it, he is more a “Neil Diamond interpreter.” They are associated with the role of Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hensley, with Fisher Stevens and Jim Belushi.
Hi, if only this description you have sings “Play it now! / Play it now! / Play it now! / Play it now!” Like all diamond fans, yes, move on, play it now and look at the trailer below.
Focus functions will release “Song Sung Blue” in theaters across the country on December 25.
