Guillermo del Toro, Jodie Foster among the TIFF TRIBUTE Award winner


Toronto International Film Festival (September 4-14) is rapid nutrition, and today, TIFF has announced the first wave of its 2025 Tribute Award winners.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (whose new film “Frankenstein” will play TIFF after a Venice World premiere) will receive the Tiff Ebert Director Award.

Two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster (whose French-speaking director’s effort “A Private Life” plays TIFF after world premiums from competition in Cannes) will receive the TIFF part of its Journey Groundbreaker Award.

Award -winning Japanese writer, director and producer Hikari (whose “Rent family” Playing the festival) will get TIFF Emerging Talent Award.

The award-winning South Korean actor Lee Byung Hun (who plays in the “Squid Game”) is the recipient of the TIFF Special Tribute Award and participates in TIFF this year with the North American Gala premiere by Park Chan-Wooks “No Other Choice.”

The Academy Award -winning actor and 2022 Tribute Performer Award receiver Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) will return to the Tribute Awards as honorary chairman 2025.

The seventh annual TIFF Tribute Awards will take place on Sunday, September 7 at Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

“We are pleased to announce this year’s recipients, who each has left an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape: from the leading talent for Lee Byung Hun; the visionary imagination for Maestro Guillermo del Toro; the evocative story to Hikari; Award,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. “We are also pleased to welcome Brendan Fraser, our recipient of the Tribute Performer Award 2022, as this year’s honorary chairman, a beloved artist and former Honouree whose warmth, generosity and passion for stories really embodies our festival.”

TIFF TRIBUTE AWARDS GALA is TIFF’s largest annual collection. Revenue supports TIFF’s 50th anniversary campaign, transform together, promote TIFF’s talent development, honor visionary artists and deepen the influence of society.
