Glen PowellPassion for working with acclaimed directors continues with a lively yet untitled comedy along with Judd Apatow.
Powell will start in the next film As instructed by Apatow where Powell will depict “a country western star in free fall”, which gives real “A star is born” vibes. Powell will also write the script along with Apatow, and the project is quickly tracked off Universal images.
Both Apatow and Powell will also produce comedy, as well as previous Universal Pictures president of the Kevin Misher production through his Misher Films Banner.
Powell, as before Fungad “hit man” with author Richard Linklater And writes one Broadway Musical with Ryan Murphywill produce together with Dan Cohen through their children’s storm -banner Recently mint first appearance with universal. Powell first collaborated with Universal for “Twists”, and his company Children’s storm also produces the recently announced “The Natural Order” for the studio, with Powell linked to Star and Barry Jenkin’s director.
Apatow’s relationship with Universal began with his 2005 debut “The 40-year-old Virgin”, and he has since directed “Knocked Up”, “Funny people”, “This is 40”, “Trainwreck” and “The King of Staten Island” for the studio.
Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development Erik Baiers will monitor this latest project for Universal.
Jenkins and Apatow are not the only acclaimed filmmakers that Powell has projects in the works. Powell recently wrapped the production on John Patton Ford’s Revenge -Thriller “Huntington” for A24 and Studio Canal, and he will then be seen in Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man” adaptation For paramount images. He will also lead Hulu Comedy Series “Chad Powers” Based on an Eli Manning sketch of a quarterback whose college career ends after bad behavior; Powell is executive and produces the series under children’s storm.
When it comes to Apatow, the untitled Universal Pictures comedy is one of the many features he develops. He is currently in production at HBO Documentary Film’s two-part documentary about Mel Brook’s life and career for HBO documentary films; Apatow produces and collaborates with Michael Bonfiglio. Apatow was too announced 2024 to direct “Cola Wars”, a movie about the fight for market share between Coca Cola and Pepsi to become the US favorite soda. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment produces it, with the film written by “Acapulco” Co -creator Ben Queen and Jason Shuman.
