Felipe Vergas’ Witchy Feature -Debut becomes swallowing


Scary crawl space. Rutting witch’s corpse. David Dastmalchian Looking for his air Fryer. One of these things is not like the others, but from Muchas Mas release, “Rosario“Is a supernatural horror girl that you have seen most before.”The late evening with the devil“The actor appears in a supportive role here for the Functional Register Debut by the filmmaker Felipe Vergas. Dastmalchian’s slippery presence as the super-Weird Joe-a clown as perhaps should not Let an old woman borrow her kitchen appliance next time – both underestimate and strengthen this strange script from Alan Trezza.

Made to amuse the audience through fun or fear, perhaps forever, Dastmalchian can difficult to float in a hall like no other artist. Yet there is more than his role as a potential red herring in vergas’ Witch Look at inheritance and sadness to recommend it. Actress Emeraude Toubia plays as a title character, who goes “Rose” instead of “Rosario.” The film Opens with a worrying memory from her childhood and establish, she, her late mother (Diana Lein), her still living father (José Zúñiga), and her somewhere between Abuela (Constanza Gutierrez) comes from culturally and spiritually.

Drapped in rich colors and lush production values, “Rosario” has a striking visual language with more to say about the Mexican American experience than many of its characters. We meet Little Rose and Grandma Griselda at a party that inexplicably sees the older woman smeared in blood and lurks in a back room. Jumping forward in time is her elegant Wall Street broker grandchildren now semi-deserts from most of her relatives. This pale attempt at a complex female lead takes advantage of Toubia’s exact performance but makes a bad first impression with a sterile spin on Manhattan Girl manager made in different shades of gray, black and white. The visual adjustment seems to be intended to establish Rose’s emotional distances from her family. Instead, it suggests a non -comitic personality that does not match the rest of the weirdness in this movie.

When Rose is caught inside a dirty New York apartment with his grandmother’s dead body, collide strong creature effects (made by a combination of practical and digital means) with a handful of truly sharp line deliveries to make something similar into a less “pull me to hell.” As Alison Lohman’s naive banker from the 2009 film Before Her starts Toubia’s stock dealer as a well -meaning woman who is not really trying their best to be kind. Breudgingly answers a phone call from her grandmother’s landlord Marty (Paul Ben-Victor), she goes from looking at stock prices rising to studying Magic Sigil’s etched in human skin under a snowstorm.

Arrest “Evil Dead Rise” And “The Curse of La Llorona,” “Rosario” comes blood red Gore, eerie green gold lighting and intricate earthly patterns in shades of burgundy and terracotta to create a truly convincing world near the body. Maggots bubbles under each surface and the stench of ritualist victim hangs in the air when rose slowly unavings, researches the ancient practice of Palo Mayombe (a real tradition that is rooted in forced migration and the slave trade) and theorizes that the dead woman puts a curse on her to betray. Even Joe – who, for the love of everything that is sacred, just wants his fucking air Fryer back – can’t help but point out how little rose has visited.

After finding his own bloody tampon on an altar in his late grandmother’s home, Rose is smart enough to try to book it from there. And yet “Rosario” cannot find a single compelling reason to prevent that attempt. By throwing bad weather, attack dogs and more neighborhoods at the top of a good core idea, Vergas will not be so scared or uncertain with his first function, instead struggles to prove that he has good taste when he pairs potentially discordant ideas. Decent hopping horror and an intimate unpacking of the debt rose feels to have abandoned their family mimics “hereditary” and Last year’s “exhuma” Effective but loses its crispy clarity somewhere along the hunt for the Dastmalchian’s air freezer.

Linguistic with effective zeal, toubia (as, must be said, looks like very Like Charli XCX?) Fighting hard and gets some solid scenes that could have been prepared on another director’s remix. “Rosario” is worth seeing for her and is otherwise associated with pretty good problems to have. An incomplete hidden gem worth ticking off for genre completion, it is also a suitable choice for Mother’s Day 2025 – one that will remind real horror mymidrons why the best spring releases so often lurks in the clutter.
