Led by Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World” (Disney)February will continue the three -month trend with improved Box Office compared to the previous year. At the end of February we can be 25 percent of 2024.
No one expects it to continue throughout the year. If so, gross tones for the US/Canada theaters would reach $ 11.5 billion. In 2018, we looked around $ 12 billion – at current fares, which corresponds to $ 15 billion.
January increased by 10 percent from last year, but more than two -thirds of the gross came from holding. “The of Thieves 2: Pantera” (Lionsgate) was the best of a weak group of $ 33 million in January, but Universal’s “Dog Man” and Sony’s one of them “will each exceed the total.
A total of about $ 550 million in February looks like. Last year was $ 375 million. The leadership comes the new “Captain America”, which is also the first Disney Marvel Post since “Deadpool & Wolverine” in July last year. It could gross $ 175 million $ 200 million over the first two weeks. By comparison, the latest “America” franchise gathered $ 500 million.
It is a nice improvement compared to last year. But before Covid, February always collected over $ 600 million – in many years, over $ 800 million (adjusted). In 2018, when “Black Panther” debuted, the $ 1 billion passed uninjured.

This post starts a new series, with Anthony Mackie who replaces Chris Evans at the lead (same title, another character). It is directed by Julius Onah, whose previous credits include the acclaimed “Lice”. He is another indie director of the Marvel list that includes Cate Shortland, Chloe Zhao, Nia Dacosta, Ryan Coogler.
Holdovers under the direction of “dog man” should give a similar amount as the sum. “Paddington in Peru” (Sony), which was opened in large parts of the world at the end of last year ($ 93 million so far) looks like the second new edition with the best chance of grossing close to $ 50 million during the month. Both “Paddington” and “Captain America” open on February 14 and capture both Valentine’s Day and a four -day weekend.
“The Monkey” (neon)which opens on February 21, Wild Card is among the new films of the month. Based on a short story in Stephen King, it is directed by Osgood Perkins (“Longlegs”).
Wide editions include “Love Hurts” (Universal) and “Heart Eyes” (Sony), both counter -programmed against Super Bowl February 7; “Inrcribable boy” (Lionsgate) February 21; and “The Last Breath” (Focus) February 28. These originals with lower budget are not expected to break out, but one or more opens over $ 10 million would increase the month, build on the success of “one of them days”, and drive the interest in producing similar titles.
