The 29th fantasia party Isn’t over yet, but we already know the big winners in Montreal. On Saturday night, filmmakers and lawyers gathered in a theater at Cinéma du Musée to assign seven of the eight categories of the competition. (Les Fantastiques Week-end du Cinma Québécois, a regional category, was announced last week.)
“Fly Mor“Took home the chevala noiren best Film Like best points. The haunting feature was a family business, from filmmakers and punk bands John Adams, Zelda Adams and Toby Poser. They are collectively known as – wait for it – the Adams family.
“It’s just good marketing,” joking director Pascal Plante, whose film “Red rooms” Won Cheval Noir 2023. Plante served as the section’s jury president 2025 and announced the best film.
“I want to put my heart up to the microphone, so you can hear how fast it is right now,” said Zelda Adams, the oldest child. “Thanks, Fantasia, so much for this. I can’t believe it. Every time we’re done with a movie, we think for ourselves,” Is it good enough to get into Fantasia? “And fortunately this one was here!”
Like Adam’s former Fantasia posts, “Mother of Fluies” is shot in their home in Catskills. The moving drama hangs in the space between life and death and draws from real experiences with cancer.
“Everything we do has a personal resonance, and this one has a particularly dark resonance at the cellular level,” said mom Toby Poser. “Learning that it speaks to others means so much to us.”
“In a violent nature” Author/director Chris Nash served as jury president for the new meat competition for the best first feature. The prize went to “It Ends” from director Alexander Ullom. After the ceremony, the Nash praised his debut for its sincerity and said: “Everything about it reasoned with being a young adult and not knowing where to go with your life and then realize that it never ends. It sticks with you.”
