The 2024 movie schedule could be a big win for the actor Sebastian Stan. Currently in a gap year before returning to the MCU in upcoming Marvel movie thunderbolts*the man has two high-profile films on the docket: the Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice and the A24 drama Another man. The latter film has now released its first trailer, and the results are so incredible and unrecognizable that Stan has already been hyped pretty hard for awards consideration.
What people already say about another person
Both critical and public praise has been showered on Sebastian Stan, who plays the role of Edward. Playing a man with neurofibromatosis, Stan’s disfigured face is the result of the incredible makeup work you see above in the trailer. It only seems to have enhanced his portrayal of Another man’s protagonist, as additional commentary on A24’s first trailer for the pic has added the following notes to the pile. See what a number of emotions fans were left with YouTube post:
- “This is the performance we want from Sebastian Stan.” – @GGG08
- “Sebastian Stan should get some Oscar buzz for his lead performance” – @pamelac81
- “I saw this film at the Sydney Film Festival, it’s absolutely incredible. Sebastian Stan proves his acting chops with this one.” – @Mamba_4_life8
- “Give my husband Sebastian his Oscar already.” – @filmobsessednerd
- “Really happy for Sebastian that he’s actually getting good, deep acting roles. He deserves it, and I just know he’s going to be amazing.” – @AnthsV
What’s perhaps more exciting is the recognition that co-star Adam Pearson has received when the trailer is released. Known for his role in Scarlett Johanssonpp Under the skinPearson actually has neurofibromatosis and has worked to combat the stigma and bullying people with the condition have faced. And watching his performance in Another man’s trailer, he represents where the true mind devil comes into play.
Another Man Already Looks Like “A Brilliant Mindfuck”
The upcoming A24 filmwritten and directed by Aaron Schimberg, is also acclaimed by IndieWire as a “brilliantly insane film;” and I can kind of understand why. As if watching the trailer unfold wasn’t enough evidence, here’s the official synopsis of Another man:
Aspiring actor Edward undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But his new dream face quickly turns into a nightmare, as he loses the role he was born to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what was lost.
As you can see, while Sebastian Stan’s post-transformation Edward seems to be on the rise as a conventionally handsome actor, Pearson’s character, Oswald, is poised to become a star in his own right. And, as we see in the synopsis, “the role he was born to play” is all it takes to spiral Edward into the parts of the movie we haven’t seen yet.
It sounds like a great page out of Charlie Kaufman’s handbook of dark identity comedy. And it’s even with the trailer that gets a little more sour in execution. But that’s probably part of the reason why the tribute grounds for Another man is so impressive, because it’s inspired by one of the earliest grassroots price campaigns I’ve seen in a while.
For a year there Fresh alum has both a dark comedy like this, and an investor unfavorable image that The Apprenticethe man was bound to become the talk of the town. Now that we’ve gotten a deeper look into what’s going on here, that buzz is definitely justified; and has brought characters such as Adam Pearson and Renate Reinsve into the limelight as well.
I can’t wait to see what the finished film looks like. Needless to say, the early buzz from fans not only suggests that Sebastian Stan could be getting some serious award love, but that the film as a whole could be as well.
Another man will be revealed to the public in a rollout you’d expect for an A24 award contender. The pic’s limited release begins on September 20th, before going nationwide on October 4th. More than likely, this movie will be streaming sometime in 2025, probably landing them with a Max subscription. In the meantime, there is also plenty to do see if love Sebastian Stan.
