Neil Young Is back on the road, and this time it is for his all-outdoor, all-acoustic solo tour. Young’s wife, actress Daryl HannahDirects documentary ”Coastal“About their shared experience of touring in 15 exhibitions along the West Coast.
“Splash” and “Blade Runner” actress Hannah before Helmed 2018’s “Paradox” with Young with Young. Netflix film Be her Director of director. Later she directed the documentary “Mountainop” about Young’s process with Crazy Horse which made her first album in seven years, plus Grammy-nominated film “Children” About Young recording its titular album. Now Hannah is once again collaborating with Young for “Coastal”, which is invoiced as a “Cinéma Verité, behind the scenes in Young’s artistry.
The official synopsis reads: “Take an intimate trip with Maverick musicians Neil Young in this personal, behind the scenes Doc as he crosses the coast on his latest solo tour. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker and Young’s wife, Daryl Hannah, ‘Coastal’ offers a glimpse behind the curtain for this unattended iconoclast, when navigating a return to the stage after Covid-from his everyday observations on his silver Eagle Tour bus to its public. The illuminated film also contains songs rarely, if ever played live, performed in breathtakingly beautiful theaters. ”
“Coastal” premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival 2024 and was later shown at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The documentary is produced by Gary Ward and is edited by Rachel Simmer, with film by Adam CK Vollick and director Hannah. Young will release “Coastal: The Soundtrack” to follow the movie. The album is a live recording and companion for the documentary. “Coastal” is a Shakey Pictures (founded by Young and Larry Johnson), Trafalgar releases and Warner Records production.
“With” Coastal “I wanted to highlight Neil’s authenticity, openness and vulnerability as a person, musician and artist,” Hannah said in a statement. “He is as clean and honest as they come. Deeply devoted to his musical muse, which sometimes presented a challenge to capture the songs, because we never knew what he could play or what instruments he would pick up the next. But what we could capture has an unpretentious magic that reveals the truth, the feeling and the emotions in these hidden gems as well as a close look at an artist playing from the heart with a total lack of claims. ”
“Coastal” premieres in theaters for one night only on April 17 from Trafalgar which is released. Check out the trailer below.
