Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona continues their respective indie governments: after Arjona stole scenes in “Blink twice” (and now appear in “Andor”), and just as Johnson helps Do the box office story On A24 with “Materialists”, both actresses add another critically acclaimed hit to their summer resume with “Fragmentation. ”
Comedy was first announced 2024 and recently premiered on Cannes 2025. Michael Angelo Covino leads and co -writers with his “The Climb” collaboration partner Kyle Marvin; The duo also plays with Johnson and Arjona as their respective spouses in “Splitsville.”
Still, it is the Buzzy Synopsis, and not just the casting, which will turn his head: Ashley (Arjona) want a divorce from his husband Carey (Marvin), who seek marital advice from his friends Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino). But after Carey discovers the secret to her friends’ happy marriage is open, Carey takes it a little too far and throws all her relationships in chaos.
Nicholas Braun, David Castaneda and OT Fagbenle also play. Johnson, Covino and Marvin together with Emily Korteg, Ryan, Jeff Deutchman, Ro Donnelley and Samantha Racanelli.
The Indieview review Out of Cannes praised Marvin and Covino’s script for being “consistently fun”, while Kinematographer Adam Newport-Berra “arranges the action with a propulsion and creativity that makes the domestic problems feel cinematic alive.”
The review reads on, “‘Splitsville’ will probably not promote the conversation around open relationships and their vitality, but we are not sure that is the intention. Still, the filmmakers have created a completely delightful story about four people who try to negotiate their own wishes in the most severe ways with unexpected chaos around every turn.”
“Splitsville” was far from the only critically acclaimed film That neon had on Cannes: before the distributor who gathered his sixth Palme in a row d’Or with Jafar Panahis “It was just an accident” wacky “The secret agent.” It also had “Alpha”, “Orwell: 2+2 = 5”, “Sentimental Value” and “Splitsville” entering the festival. Neon will soon release “fjord” and “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo”, both of whom were at Cannes Market.
