“Conclave” won the USC Liberies Scripter Award for the best customized script in 2025, which strengthened its position as the Oscar favorite in that category. The ceremony took place on Saturday night at the USC campus in central Los Angeles.
The Scriptter Award goes to the author of a custom script and to the author of the original work on which the script was based, which in this case is screenwriter Peter Straughan and novelist Robert Harris.
“Conclave” is an Oscar nominated for best custom script and won the script in a category that also included nominated Cellow Oscar Award “A Complete Unknown”, “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing.” (The fifth script finalist was “The Wild Robot”, while the last Oscar nominees are “Emilia Pérez.”)
During the 38 years since the Scriptter Awards began in 1988, the winner has matched the Oscar winner for best adapted script 16 times. Half of these times came in an eight -year route between 2011 and 2018, which was followed by four years where prices did not match. Over the past two years, however, the script winner – “Women Talking” 2023 and “American Fiction” last year – has received Oscar.
In the category Scriptter TV series, FX’s “Say Nothing”, with prizes to Patrick Radden Keefe, author of the Nonfiction book of the same name about the problems in Northern Ireland and screenwriter Joshua Zetumer. The FX -Show’s victory over “Baby Reindeer” and “Shōgun”, which has been on a continuous victory tour through the awards ceremony, is significant. “Slow horses” won this category 2023 and 2024, which made it the first program that won the script more than once.
The ceremony took place on the USC campus in town and dress, a ballroom next to the Doheny library, the traditional location of the scripts. Even at the event, Scriptter Selection Committee President Howard Rodman received USC Libraries ex Libris Award from novelist Walter Mosley.
Script finalists and winners are elected by a committee consisting of authors Guild of America members, Oscar -Prize -winning and nominated screenwriters, writers, film and television industry leaders, faculties and selected members of Friends of the USC libraries. The Gala presentation is an annual collection for USC library.
