You probably feel the iconic “A man and a woman” main theme Written by Francis Lai, but when was the last time you actually saw the movie? Claude Lelouch1966 Cannes Palme d’Or (and double) Oscar winner is led by French film icons Anouk Aimée (who died last year and strange was not included in Oscars 2025 In memory Segment) and Jean-Louis Trintignant (who died 2022). In the film, Trintignant plays a widow and racing driver who is now single after his wife’s suicide. At the same time, Aimée is a widow himself, whose man was a stuntman who died in an accident during an production. They meet at their children’s boarding school in Deauville and form a nervous friendship that eventually turns into romance, everything that leads to an iconic finale where Claude Lelouch’s camera (he himself made the films) swirls around the lovers.

The new restoration of “A Man and a Woman” opens on April 4 at New York’s Film Forum and April 18 in Los Angeles at Laemle Royal. Lelouch will be viewed in person for Q & AS in New York.
