Chris Columbus regrets including a Seven seconds come of Donald Trump in “Home alone 2: Lost in New York. “Thirty-three years (and two Trump administrations) after the film was released in 1992, director Columbus explains why he hopes for a RED… without political branches.
Columbus told us San Francisco Chronicle That he can be deported to Italy by the Trump administration if he removes the scene with the current president. The sequence in question has Macaulay Culkins Kevin McCallists asking Trump for directions to the Plaza Hotel Lobby. “Down in the corridor and to the left,” Trump says in the short look of the screen.
But that scene has been haunting Columbus for several years. “It has become this curse. It has become this thing that I wish it was not there,” Columbus said. “It has become an albatross for me. I just wish it was gone.”
He added that he “can’t cut it”, but and says, “if I cut it, I will probably be sent out of the country. I will be considered a kind not appropriate to live in the US, so I have to go back to Italy or something.”
And while Trump has questioned whether he was on his way for The Cameo or not, the Columbus put the record right: “He said I asked him to be in the movie, but there is no world that I would ever ask a non-actor to be in a movie. But we were desperate to get the Plaza hotel.”
Columbus told me earlier Business Insider 2023 that Trump allowed them to film At the Plaza Hotel in exchange for an performance in the film. “Like most places in New York City, you only pay a fee and you can shoot at that place,” Columbus said. “We contacted the Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at that time, because we wanted to shoot in the lobby. We couldn’t rebuild the square at a sound stage. Trump said ok. We paid the fee, but he also said:” The only way you can use Plaza is if I’m in the movie. “So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the strange happened: People cheered when Trump showed up on the screen. But he made it into the movie.”
Trump retained later and said at Social media“Nothing could be any further from the truth. It helped make the movie a success. But if they felt bullied or didn’t want me, why did they put me in and held me there for over 30 years?”
