“Palmtrees and Power Lines” Standout star Lily Mcinerny Plays 18-year-old Cécile who is on vacation with his father Raymond (Claes Bang) and his lover Elsa (Naïlia Harzoune). But their summer takes a twisted turn when Anne (Chloë Sevigny), a friend of Cécile’s late mother, drives down from Paris to visit the family.
When Synopsis teases, “Cécile’s world is threatened and, desperately after regaining control, she starts a plan to drive Anne away with tragic consequences. “Bonjour boredess” is a writer/director Durga Chew-bose’s directorial debut; the film Premiere at 2024 TIFF.
Indieview review Compared the cold lushness of “Bonjour boredom” with a “memory”, with Kate Erblanda who wrote, “It is as if we are caught in a photo album of what Cécile happens to remember from that summer, a Mish-mash of delightfully hazy moments and stitches, manned lines. Framing, but also its sound. Butter that scratches a piece of roasted bread. A knife that cuts through an apple. A smooth kiss.
The review continues, “Chew-bose’s power lies in her patience, as her script is not at all afraid to calm her audience to a state of not really boredom, but at least Ennui (The French! Again!) Before Oh-so carefully direct us to a much more shocking and ultimately satisfactory space. While much of the film seems to be filtered through memory (and later regret), the emotions in their heart slowly click in place during the movie. The lessons too. ”
