American Civil Liberties Union has released an open letter this morning signed by 400 Hollywood celebrities expressing their dismay at Disney draws “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” by ABC. The letter notes how essential freedom of speech is for the American film and TV The industry to conduct its business at all, while recognizing that “this moment is greater than us and our industry.”
Tom Hanks, Lily Wachowski, Regina King, Ben Stiller and Meryl Streep were among them, including music stars such as Olivia Rodrigo, who signed.
However, the letter stops without proposing further action such as those who care about the silence of Kimmel – a trait that directly demanded Disney to act against their own business interests to calm the Trump administration – and don’t even require a boycott of Disney Or for subscribers to cancel their Disney+ bonnets, such as Tatiana Maslany, the star of the Disney+ series “She -Hulk”, advocated for social media.

We the people Never accept the government’s threat to our freedom of speech. Leaders’ efforts to press artists, journalists and companies with retaliation for their speech strike in the heart of what it means to live in a free country.
Last week, Jimmy Kimmel was taken by the air after the government threatened a private company with retaliation, which marked a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation. In an attempt to silence their critics, our government has used to threaten the livelihood of journalists, talk show hosts, artists, creative and entertainers across the line. This is contrary to the values on which our nation was built, and our constitutional guarantees.
We know that this moment is bigger than us and our industry. Teachers, government employees, law firms, researchers, universities, students and so many more are also facing direct attacks on their freedom of speech.
Regardless of our political connection, or whether we are involved in politics or not, we all love our country. We also share the belief that our votes should never be silenced by those who have power – because if it happens to one of us it happens to us all.
This is the moment to defend freedom of speech in our nation. We encourage all Americans to join us, together with ACLU, in the struggle to defend and preserve our constitutionally protected rights.
