It is a good day for Casey Bloys, whose programming over HBO and HBO MAX listed 142 Emmy nominations over 20 original programs on Tuesday morning, which set a record for the recently mentioned platform.
But for the hbo boss, it’s the spread of recognition Across Both prestige series like “The White Lotus,” “The Last of Us” and “The Penguin” – with “The White Lotus” and “The Penguin” Bringing in 24 nods a Piece – The Last Us “Score Score. Offering – Including “Hacks,” Which Scored 15 Nods for Its Fourth Season, and Newcomer “The Pitt,” which joined the packaging with 13 nominations – it’s the most rewarding.
“It’s always a nice recognition of all the creative people that we get to work with and the team internally, but what was really nice is the nominations spread over so many shows and so many genres – the dramas, the comedies, late evenings, documentaries. It was a fantastic show all over the board,” Bloys told Thewrap on Tuesday morning.
Bloys said he is particularly proud of “The Pitt” for breaking through to Emmy voters in his New Year’s season, especially compared to more prestige titles in the category, which includes “The White Lotus”, “The Last of Us”, “Severance”, “Andor”, “The Diplomat”, “Paradise
“It’s a format that is difficult … When you say we will make 15 episodes, we will do it with an enclosed budget,” Bloys said. “For all first season shows to break through is difficult, but for a show to break through with shows made in a completely different way-seven, eight episodes every 18 months … (while) season 2 of” The Pitt “is in production now and it is broadcast in January … a little old-fashioned TV. “
Bloys recognizes the value of balancing HBO’s slate with both exhibitions on an annual bike, such as “The Pitt” and “Hacks”, as well as more prestige series that are on a two -year bike and say “I don’t want to do any kind of show just in one way … There are many different approaches to make good TV.”
Below Bloy’s updates on “The White Lotus” season 4 give their two cents to Neil Druckmann who goes away from “The Last of Us” season 3 and shares what comes up in the pipeline.
Thewrap: “The White Lotus” again got its flowers. Do you have an update on season 4?
Bloys: Mike (white) hit a bit – I know the general outline for what season 4 will be. He will look for, see what place he is inspired by and then give us more of an update of what he thinks, but it is percollent in his head.
“The Last of Us” also made a strong show and will shake the next season as Neil Druckmann goes away. How do you expect the change to affect the next season?
I’m not worried about it at all. We have obviously been very lucky to have the person who created the playing work on the show, and Neil is still an executive producer … But people forget that he has a full -time job as one of the biggest video players and runs a company called Naughty Dog, so he has a lot going on. I really understand that he has to spend more time doing it, but I think he and Craig (Mazin) have built up a really good plan. And obviously the game is a good guide for where to go.
What can you tease about “The Pitt” season 2?
John (Wells) already said it will take place during the holidays July 4th. Nothing good happens on July 4 – Lots of fireworks disasters and all sorts of things. That’s all I can really say, but you don’t want to be on an urgent on July 4th.
Are you frustrated that “House of the Dragon” didn’t seem to catch with Emmy voters in the same way as “Game of Thrones” did?
You know with Emmys, you take what you get. It is a nice recognition, but that is not the reason we show. Of course, I would like to see everyone recognize, but it just doesn’t work that way, so you just have to keep trying.
“Lantern” is coming out at the beginning of next year and “Superman” looks to have launched DC successfully. What can you tease that show? Is it an Emmy challenger?
If there is wood, I will turn it on, because I am superstitious, so I just say I feel good about it. I’m not sure with the Emmy window where it falls, but in which window it falls, I think it will be an Emmy Chanter.
You have several comedies in the pipeline. What are you excited about there?
Tim Robinson’s “The Word Company” is good. Rachel Sennott has a fantastic series for us. These two are coming out this fall. Bill Lawrence and Steve Carell work for half an hour for us who will clear 26. “The comeback” will be back, which we are happy about. Sharon Horgan, which I think is fantastic, has half an hour in which she creates and the lead role. So we have many amazing things that come out.
Is Bill Haders Jonestown series near an order?
I haven’t seen anything yet. They are still hard at work with it, but I’m happy to get it when they are ready.
We were happy to see more love for “hacks” as well. How has it been to take care of that comedy? I know there is potentially a five -season plan there.
They are a dream to work with – the creators and even Jean (Smart) and Hannah (Einbinder). They are delicacies, I am proud that the show will be recognized. When it comes to … the seasons, we tend to leave it up to the creators, and they will tell you when they have told the story they want to tell. So they will notify us.
