What is sorrow unless lives in the limal space between grief and handling, of life and death itself? Courtney Stephens‘Fiction and autobiography Hybrid film “Invention“Blokes facts and fiction when it comes to the aftermath of the actress/co -author Callie Hernandezhis own father’s death.
Director Stephens and Hernandez are both credited to the script, with Hernandez also in the lead role in it (the duo also produces together). Hernandez won Pardo for best performance in the filmmakers in the present at 2024 Locarno Film Festival.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “The movie fictionalizes the aftermath of Hernandez’s father’s death with a real archive with varying television performances he did as an alternative health physician in the late 90s until 2020. The healing device that becomes his daughter (played by herbage as The Fiction story. Other independent filmmakers in actor roles, “invention” acts as a portrait of America during its late period, a country where widespread disappointment infuses the culture with hopeful fictions and toxic nostalgia. ”
James N. Kienitz Wilkins, Lucy Kaminsky, Sahm McGlynn, Tony Torn, Paul Kleiman, Tony Torn, Joe Swanberg and Caveh Zahedi co -star. The cinematography is by Rafael Palacio Illingworth, who shot at 16 mm. “Invention” is a neurotics haus and jacket weather production.
Hernandez is also shown in Pete Oh’s “The real beauty of being bitten by a tick”, which premiered at SXSW 2025, and Albert Birney’s “Obex”, which premiered at Sundance 2025. She will also lead “The Misconceived”, “N. Kienitz, and James Wilkins
The Indieview review For the “invention” the film considered a “persuasive and warm” function that is “open -hearted, playful and perceived.” “Invention” achieves its own type of magic when you see how far you can test the boundaries between metafiction and explicit documentary, “reads the review.” “Invention” may have the story of how far you can test a mourning drama we have seen before, “but it is all unique,” can have the narrative tropes of many grief drama we have seen before, but it is all unique thanks, “may have the narrative tropes of many grief drinks increasingly abstract.”
The film will have its American premiere at the Los Angeles Festival of Movies on Friday 4 April and its premiere at East Coast at New Director/New Films on Saturday, April 5. Metrograph images will release the movie Friday 18 April.
