The fear of childhood is often extremely personal when it comes to how they show internally, but many are universal in the external form they take; Fear of darkness and monsters that lurk within the unknown void is one of the most common. “Dust Kunny“The debut function film from productive TV creators Bryan Fuller (“Wonder Falls”, “Pressing Thousand Mature”, “Hannibal”) Takes a simple question: “What happens if the monster under the bed is real?” And craft an exciting and heartfelt action-horror comedy that gives his brand mix of whimsical maximalism and macabre humor as easily to the big screen.
The Movie Stars Newcomer Sophie Sloan as Aurora, A Young Girl Whose Belief In The Monster under Her Bed Is So Strong That The Creature Actually Comes To Life In Physical Form, at First as Cute, Yet Sinister Collection of Dust Shaped Like A Bunny Behid A Bunny Being Mother Being Mother Being Mother Being Merfing Piranha-like Menace that Eats People in One Swallow, Brought to Life Through Thrilling CGI-Enhanced Puppetry. When her parents do not believe in her, she wants a falling star for someone who helps her kill the beast.
Go into Resident 5B, played with irrevocable charm and agility of prolonged fuller partner Mads Mikkelsen, Aurora’s neighbor from all over the hall. Convinced that she saw the man kill a dragon in Chinatown one night, Aurora tries to hire him to kill the monster under her bed after it eats his parents. Despite the mess in her apartment, the man, like everyone else in her life, brushes her fear as the exaggeration of an overactive imagination. But because of his actual profession – he is an employee hitman – he thinks perhaps one of his Monsters may have accidentally should have been able to have their parents who thought they were him and will come for Aurora next.
The Rest of the Movie Plays Out Like A Mixture of “Leon: The Professional,” “Poltergeist,” “City of Lost Children,” and “John Wick” as Resident 5B Fights Off Monsters And Men, Bonds With The Little Girl Professor Profession A Feellow Merri -Mist. Killer Played by Sigourney Weaver, Channeling Her Hilariously Venomous Oscar-Nominated Performance in “Working Girl.” David Dastmalchian also brings his individual bizarre person into the film’s last act as one of the many hitmen who comes to reside 5B, while the other worldly Sheila Atim rounds out the role of a FBI agent that exudes Big Pam Grier Energy.
Fuller has thrown a lot into the mixer when it comes to themes, pictures and characters and the result is exactly what you can expect a fuller -ian spin on a family-friendly (ish) horror movie would be. Shots in Hungary, the majority of the action take place in the Lux-Hireshuset where Aurora and lives 5B Live, a building before the war with winding stairs, thick wallpapers and an old school-gated elevator. The art direction has nodded to the luxury of “Hannibal” season three with the lively color palette of “Pushing Daisies.” The viewers who are familiar with Fuller’s TV work will not be surprised by the many shots of delicious food, including a Dim Sum dish that looks like a cute little rabbit, designed by Janice Poon, whose work with “Hannibal” was the cherry on top of his Estete horror vibe.
DP Nicole Hirsch Whitaker makes the film’s colorful images with a fairy tale glaze, and emphasizes the production design’s maximalism, while often turning the edges to give the frame a dream -like quality. Old -fashioned film techniques that shared diopter images, Iris dries and Chiaroscuro lighting adds another layer of maximalist flare to the entire store. Eccentric touch, such as Bunny Dim Sum that moves slightly before it is eaten or a taxidermited chicken with an egg in the butt as a lamp or a swinging church choir wearing Pam AM -style uniforms, places fixed “dust rabbit” inside the whimsical world of the full, although the uninitiated can find anything a little too much.
Mikkelsen, in one of the most tender performances in his career, and Sloan, whose expressive eyes remain impossibly wide during the film, creates a simple chemistry together, his murderous humor that matches her as a glove. At the end of the film, a continuous joke there lives 5B, because of his thick Danish accent, not say that Aurora’s name is properly delighted between the two, which form a new family from the broken pieces of their own.
For all its cinematic flourishes, this is a sweet movie in its heart, one who is interested in the darker side of childhood, not only the fear we have as a child, but also the anger. The end may not fit well with everyone, it is both on the nose and a little too simple, but as someone who had furious problems as a child I felt it deep in my legs. We carry all our monsters from childhood with us to adulthood, whether we want to admit it or not. When it comes to fuller, the best thing we can do is to accept that part of ourselves and find more constructive ways to feed it. Like making emotional resonance, visually brilliant and ridiculously horrible art about the power of the chosen family.
