You know what they say about old habits. The whole first season of ”Daredevil: Born again“Have seen Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin who try (admittedly not so difficult) not to slip into previous patterns, but the season 1 final gives them back to square – and to the truth about who they are.
Written by Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson and directed by Heather Bellson & Dario Scardapane, “Straight to Hell” diagram every character’s descent during the fateful hours after Matt has been shot – and yes, these are all characters including New York City himself. Mayor Fisk flies high after cheating death again, and it starts his power to recently uncontrolled but familiar tyrannical territory.
First he draws the trigger on an urban blackout (“Send our friend from Coned”) where Anti-Vigilante Task Force reigns terror. All violence or looting that took place without them is infinitely worse with their labor, and all that is required is to place a mask next to an accident to claim innocent deaths as an action. The working group goes after Matt in his apartment (they really just let him go out of the hospital’s ass and go home?), Where they are greeted by Devil of Hell’s Kitchen and The Punisher himself. The apartment has been established since section 1, and it is too good not to explore further; The open floor plan, angled roofs, how the moonlight dances on the walls when Daredevil and Punisher crush their opponents.
“Born Again” risks grinding Frank Castle’s edges (Jon Bernthal), but this is also his second scene throughout the series. It emphasizes the horrifying friendship between Matt and Frank because it is the most relevant part of their past and present (and if you look at a whole season of “The Punisher” next, it will not exactly dissatisfaction Disney). They spill blood and crunch and differ, of course, how best handles Cole (Jeremy Isaiah Earl) – the one who executed Hector (Kamar de los Reyes) at the end of section 3. Matt is still knitted by the injustice and his own personal connection to Hector, and how it echoes through other people he has lost through the years, including Foggy. For Frank it is a matter of pride. Imitation Punisher logo on Cole’s bullet was no flattery, but the most difficult insults.

This is what drives Frank to confront the working group later that night – it, and a crunchy reunion with Karen (Deborah Ann Woll), who flew all over the country after hearing that Foggy’s murderer escaped jail and saves her broken, brawling boys. Woll and Bernthal have more chemistry in a few glances across the room than most Marvel Movies do with full love stories and kisses (again, those responsible want you to look at “The Punisher”). “Straight to hell” does not spare time for Matt and Heather, but the return of the guy arrives with reminders that other relationships maintain this series as well.

Above the city on Upper East Side (provided fish settled at Gracie Mansion), fish decides to execute its power from the highest level. Anyone who does not agree with their politics will be exposed, extorted or worse (has their head smashed to a mass in front of powerless witnesses). Pay attention to every reaction; To Sheila’s hesitation (zabryna Guevara) even though she sends in, to Daniels (Michael Gandolfini) visible joy, to the spectators’ faces when fish punish gallo (Michael Gaston). Although the tide is turning in season 2, these people have already enabled Kingpin’s reign, and they will carry it for the rest of their lives.
IW on the street
- Do you think fish have itching to crush a man’s head in his hands all the time?
- Frank asks Matt why he “took a bullet for that asshole”, which will surely have repercussions during season 2. A death wish? A desire to get fish indebted to him? Purely self -destructive chaos?
- It’s a short scene, but let’s not slip over the discovery that Foggy (Elden Henson) found documentation that explained Red Hook as a “free port … Exceptions from all jurisdiction.” Something to look forward to!
- I hope we can explore more of Heather’s (Margarita Levieva) reluctance to Vigilantes, and what made her accept the job with fish.
- Absolutely impaired that fish and vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) seem to fix their marriage after locating a dozen enemies in cages – and yet it tracks.
