Did we learn nothing from “rounder”? The “card counter”? “California split” and “Mississippi gate”? Gambling! It’s not for everyone!
But is it actually for Lord Doyle? It remains to be seen in Edward Berger’s upcoming return to Netflix, “Ballad of a Small Player.” Customized from Lawrence Osborne Roman 2014 with the same name, Bergers first post- “Conclave” feature follows Colin Farrell as the little playerthey wonderfully (and seemingly False) is called Lord Doyle, who has a really tough time with this game. Maybe he should have persecuted another type of hobby.
Per it filmS official summary: “Lord Doyle (Colin Farrell) Located low in Macau – spends its days and nights on the casino floors, drinks vigorously and plays what little money he has left. He struggles to keep up with his rapidly rising debts and is offered a lifeline by the mysterious Dao Ming (Fala Chen), a casino employee with his own secrets. In Hot Pursuit, however, Cynthia is Blithe (Tilda Swinton) – a private investigator who is ready to confront Doyle with what he drives from. When Doyle tries to climb to salvation, reality begins to close. ”
In the film’s first teaser, it certainly does not look so good for Farrell’s character, as he cares through the neon-accentuated surroundings from Macau, Las Vegas and then. (Also, at any time Tilda Swinton is on your tail, that’s the cause of alarm.) Things may look better for the star and his director, but as the movie reads for A TIFF World PremiereWith other festival beds soon announced. Farrell will also be on hand to receive the Golden Icon Award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival.
The film is not just a reunion for Berger and the studio behind his previous smash hit “All Quiet on the Western Front”, it also sees him to get the band back together with much of the crew from the same film, including the Academy Award-winning cinematographer James Friend and composer Volker Berteln.
Netflix Will release the film in Select Us Theater on Wednesday, October 15, with a streaming edition to follow Wednesday, October 29. Check out the movie’s first teaser trailer below.
