Apple TV+ celebrates its record -breaking feature for 2025 Emmys, where it received a total of 81 nominations, including several shows in the Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series categories.
“Severance” led Emmys as the most nominated series with a total of 27 nominations, while Seth Rogen’s “The Studio” made history as the most nominated beginner comedy with a total of 23 Emmy nominations.
At the same time, Bill Lawrences received “shrinking” seven nominations, including the first for outstanding comedy series and Harrison Ford as outstanding supporting actors in a comedy series, while “slow horses” and “adopted innocent” saw five and four nominations respectively.
“It feels good, especially for all talents. They work so hard on the show,” Apple TV+ Head of Programming Matt Cherniss told Thewrap in an interview. “They put their faith in us as a home for these series and to see that leaps of faith are rewarded and so well deserved for all talents in all series is just really gratifying.”
The nominations are the latest sign of Teknikgiganten’s growing acceptance in Hollywood since first launched the 2019 streaming service.
“In my mind we are still a young service, we have been during these five years. Much of it had been affected by Covid and the strikes. It has really taken some time to get to the place where I think we have the rhythm and the momentum that we had always imagined,” he added. “We really strive for show that has a humanity for them, a resonance and an originality and an effort for their stories and an ambition. I think it has been consistent and the audience has really noted over the past year or so, since we have seen speed just continue to grow. And I think it has been reflected in the nominations.”
On the question of updates on upcoming seasons of “The studio”, “shrinking” and “severance”, Cherniss said that their respective future is “very light.”
The “studio” is “finding out how to up Ante” in season 2 and “continues to find interesting ways to tell stories about the world and Matt Remick and all other characters,” he said.
Cherniss said he has seen a “reasonable amount” of “shrinking” season 3 and “could not be more excited about where it goes.”
“It is such a cordial show and so resonant and at the right time when it comes to how we care about each other, how we care about ourselves and take care of ourselves and take care of our families,” he said. “Seeing Harrison Ford getting a nomination is just the cherry on top for everyone involved in it. I think Bill, Jason and the whole team on that show are doing an incredible job.”
In addition, Cherniss “Severance” praised as one of the most ambitious programs on television, which he acknowledged “takes time” to produce.
“Every detail is curated, every plot point is considered and Dan and Ben do a fantastic job,” he said. “It takes a little longer than we might want it all to meet, but I think the show has a lot of speed and I am excited for the audience to see what they have in store in season 3 and thereafter.”
He added that David E Kelley has a “big plan” for “adopted innocent” and said that season 2, which will start Rachel Brosnahan, is in the “early writing stages.”
When it comes to other projects in the works, Cherniss said he is “really excited” over Thriller “Cape Fear”, based on John D. Macdonald’s novel “The Executus”, and added that it “looks fantastic.” At the same time, “neuromancer” is in their “early days” of production.
“I think it’s extremely ambitious,” he said. “Like many of the show in that genre and on our slate, (neuromanic) really try to take a classic story and do justice to the source material and I think they are well on their way.”
In addition, he annoyed that Apple TV+ would have more updates on the unglined sci-fi series from Vince Gilligan soon. “Unlike something on TV right now and I am very excited for you and the audience to see what is in the store.”
