Dakota Mrs. Johnson was born on October 4, 1989.
And she’s been rocking that Hollywood life ever since, making her film debut in 1999 Crazy in Alabama (starring her mother and directed by her then-stepfather Antonio Banderas) before building steam under her own name with Fifty Shades fairy tale, A bigger splash, How to be single, Sighs and Mrs. Web.
She has said that she finds the nepo-baby conversation “incredibly annoying”, mainly because it’s quite common to walk into one’s family business.
“I started auditioning,” she recalled in 2025 Materialists costs Pedro Pascal for Elle. There were dry spells and then, well, “I have to ask my parents for help,” she shared. “I’m very thankful that I had parents who could help me and who helped me. But it really wasn’t fun. The audition process, as you know, is the worst f-king.”
Melanie and Don divorced in 1996, but she’s still close to them, her stepmother, her ex-stepfather, and all of her half-siblings—who are simply brothers and sisters to her, period.
“I was raised by lots of people, my mom and my dad and then step parents and babysitters and teachers and friends and teachers and then friends’ parents and boyfriends’ parents,” Dakota shared The Hollywood Reporter 2021. “I wanted to learn from everybody. And I still am. I’m grateful to my parents and my crazy life because the only reason I’m the way I am is because of how I grew up.”
