“Toolkit”, “WTF” and “The Movies That Made Me” will all be back on Cinemathque in August for the third edition of “Friend of the Fest”, which will contain 27 podcasts and events at Aero Theater and Los Feliz 3 from August 27. The festival starts with another live recording of Indieviewer’s “Filmmaker Toolkit”, with director Mario van Peebles who pops up personally to screen and discuss his feature debut, “New Jack City.”
It is one of three live recordings that will take place at this year’s party. On August 21, the same night will be van Peebles to present “New Jack City” at Los Feliz 3, Aero will host a screening of “Vampire’s Kiss” followed by a live recording of “Visit” podcast with hosts/spectrevision founder Daniel Noah and Elijah (Tylpin and was united by the movie maker which was called by movie maker by movie maker. Maron returns to current Robert Altman’s “McCabe and Mrs Miller,” while Dante and Olson have chosen the cult classic “Vanishing Point” for their viewing this year. Other highlights include a 4K restoration of Altman’s “Popeye” presented by the hosts of Perf injury, three programs from Ringer (“The Big Picture”, “House of R,” and “The Midnight Boys”) and a screening of “UHF” which is hosted by “Office Hours Live” Podcaster
Cinematheque programmers Cindy Flores points out that while several festival favorites from previous years are back, this year’s party also contains 15 new podcasts including “Tea Time”, which will host a double element in “Sister Act”, “The Dana Gould Hour”, with Gould to introduce “Carnival of Soul of Soul Hosts Meg Megue and Hofue and Lemna. And there are many more where they came from.
“A fun thing with the podcast found at ‘Friend of the Fest’ is that they are not all directly film -focused, which opens up a variety of movie estimates,” Flores said. “We are pleased to bring these passionate listening audiences to the theater to celebrate their favorite programs along with the shared film experience.”
